- Opportunity: Call for entries
- Information: An International Photography Competition representing an opportunity for photographers and artists worldwide (professionals, students and amateurs) to submit and exhibit their work at The Gallery Art & Design in Richmond, VA, USA. The work of the participants selected by The Gallery will be submitted to a jury of leading local Richmond and international gallery owners, academics and artists in the field for the selection of the Competition winner and the first and second runners-up in the Competition. A collective exhibition of 50 selected photographs in the Competition will be held in Richmond at The Gallery in mid-2008. Winning artists will be eligible to participate in overseas exhibitions in Milan and Mexico City.
- Requirements: A non-refundable entry fee of US$30.00 entitles the applicant to submit up to 3 photographs. Any form of photographic medium, black and white, color, non-silver, computer-manipulated, etc., is eligible. Artists should feel free to interpret “Colors of Life” in the broadest sense to allow full range of their creativity.

Join in a lively discussion facilitated by Karen Rudd, Manager of the City of Norfolk’s Bureau of Cultural Affairs. A public art administrator for more than 15 years, Karen will share some dos and don’ts about public art. - Opportunity: Accepting proposals for city-wide art exhibitions
- Information: This program seeks to define new ways to add to the vitality of the Downtown culture of Norfolk, Virginia. Artists will provide unique additions to downtown arts programming. Such possibilities may include performance art from alley connections or parks, moving contraptions choreographed to music, poetry, and light, empty store fronts turned into temporary installation art exhibits, video art projected on the sides of buildings, poetry panels or poets traveling on the buses, temporary public art installations, or multicultural dance in high-traffic public areas. All visual, literary, performing and wacky artists are eligible to apply.
- Requirements: Project funds for this site-specific project are $10,000. Deadline for submissions is November 30, 2007.

- Opportunity: Call for entries
- Information: The City of Norfolk, Virginia Public Art planning committee seeks artists or artist teams to create a signature piece that speaks specifically and uniquely of the zoo experience in Norfolk, Virginia. The artwork should capture the light-hearted friendly lively spirit of the zoo. The Zoological Society encourages the conservancy and preservation of nature as part of its mission. Artwork which incorporates recycled materials or takes an earth friendly approach is especially encouraged, though not a requirement for consideration.

- Opportunity: Interpretive Internship
- Information: The Smithsonian’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden is a leading voice for contemporary art and culture and provides a national platform for the art and artists of our time. The Museum is offering 2-4 internship positions for spring and summer terms. Arts and Programs Intern (Interpretive Intern) Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden Supervisor: Ryan Hill – Manager of Interpretive Programs Interpretive Internships An Interpretive Intern would support Interpretive Programs through exhibition research, content trainings and facilitating informal conversations in the galleries with the general public. Interns will periodically meet with museum staff, visit behind the scenes, and discuss interpretation techniques and their experience working with museum visitors.
- Requirements: Qualifications: This program is open to upper-level undergraduates, recent graduates, and graduate students. Candidates must possess a strong background in art history from 1960's to the present, however students in good academic from studio art, writing, and education programs are strongly encouraged to apply. Research, writing, organizational skills, thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office, as well as sensitivity to interacting with the general public are required. This position in unpaid with the spring term needing part-time commitment and the summer full-time.

- Opportunity: scholarship opportunity
- Information: The Institute of International Education is pleased to announce the beginning of the 2008-2009 National Security Education Program (NSEP) David L. Boren Scholarship and Fellowship competitions.
Created in 1991, NSEP awards undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships to American students for study of world regions critical to U.S. interests (including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America and the Caribbean, and the Middle East).
Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 for an academic year’s study abroad. Boren Fellowships provide up to $30,000 for language study and international research.
- Requirements: The application deadline for the Boren Fellowship is January 30, and the deadline for the Boren Scholarship is February 12.

- Information: The VCU Intercultural Festival Planning Board is accepting applications for a limited number of positions. Responsibilities include designing and planning for specific events in April. Positions are given in a first come, first served process. The Intercultural Festival promotes diversity and cultural awareness through a student-run, outdoor festival in April that features performances, food, activities and cultural displays along with the ICF Week, ICF Concert and ICF Parade.

- Opportunity: Youth Summit in DC
- Information: VCU's Sierra Student Coalition will lead a group from VCU participating in PowerShift 2007, a youth summit in Washington, D.C., focused on climate crisis on Friday, Nov. 2. The pinnacle of the event will be on Monday, Nov. 5, which is “Hold Your Politicians Accountable Day,” when 5,000 young environmentalists and social and environmental justice speakers will march on the Capitol.
- Requirements: Registration is $20 per person. The deadline to register with VCU SSC is Friday, Oct. 19.

- Information: The school is located north of Charlottesville...take 29 North out of Charlottesville to Airport/Proffit Road then take a right on Proffit and go one mile...the school is on the right. There is a sign at the entrance to the park up on the right as you enter the lower (bus) parking lots. Take the left fork in the path, follow it down to the baseball diamond, cross the parking lot and enter the main park.
