1708 “InLight” Call For Entries

Friday, January 25th, 2008

1708 Gallery is sponsoring an all night art event/celebration for their 30th anniversary and Richmond’s first annual light-inspired contemporary arts happening.  Modeled after Paris’ Nuit Blanche, the event will be a spectacle of multi-media instillations and performances.

From 7pm, Friday 5 September 2008 to 2am Saturday 6 September, the 300, 200, and 100 blocks of W. Broad St. in Richmond, VA will serve as sites for art works.  Various locations within these blocks have been identified as primary and secondary sites, for instance walls, parking lots, storefronts, doorways, and median strips.

Artists are also welcome to explore roving performances/instillations (i.e. the street as canvas).  Select sites will showcase instillations that remain on view throughout the evening, and possibly longer.  Other sites will target performances and instillations that rotate over the course of the evening.

Light is the theme, so all work proposed should be inspired by light in some way.  Any interpretation of light is welcome, from light as a medium to light as an abstract idea.  Interdisciplinary projects are encouraged but not required.  Existing work will be considered as well as proposals for new work.

For details and images of sites, please visit 1708’s blog at www.inlightrichmond.blogspot.com
