Want hands on experiences with magazine creation?

Literati and the Fabulous Liz Canfield host a zine creation workshop Tuesday
February 26th at 6:00 pm in Hibbs 308. Each participant is encouraged to bring
a short piece to include the zine that the workshop will create. It can be
anything from a short story to examples of poetry or last nights trig
homework. Through out the workshop participants will go from beginning to end
in the entire process of assembling and creating zine.

Unfortunately, space for this event is limited so if you want to attend please
RSVP to Selfjr@vcu.edu The workshop will be great hands on experience for those
interested in publication or anyone who just wants to get their arts & crafts
on with Literati.

If demand is more then we can handle in one event we will schedule a second
event later in the coming weeks to e-mail selfjr@vcu.edu even if you are
interested but can’t attend the first event.

Call for Intern Artists 2008

FRANCONIA, MINNESOTA - FRANCONIA SCULPTURE PARK (FSP) is a 20-acre site located 45 miles northeast of Minneapolis/St. Paul, Minnesota. FSP actively recruits career bound artists and post-grad artists to participate in the intern artist program as a part of our dedication to building expertise and experience in student, graduate & post-grad artists. Typically, half of an intern’s time is spent on their own work and half the time is spent working for artists and the park. Responsibilities are to make work to be included in the 2008 exhibition, assist visiting artists with fabrication, site preparation, and installation of all types and sizes of 3-D work; landscaping & maintenance. Intern Artists are also involved in special FSP community and school outreach programs introducing contemporary art and ideas to community.

Internships are a minimum of two months and may last up to four months. Intern artists are encouraged to create their own work for inclusion in the 2008 exhibition. Up to 6 interns at one time are provided room and board. 14 Intern Artists are accepted in residency each year.

To apply send: (1) Application cover sheet (download from our Web site, www.franconia.org) (2)A letter of interest/application. (3) Resume. (4) 8 images of recent work on disk, each with your name and a number that corresponds with the image script. Images on disk should be saved in JPEG format at 96 dpi, with no more than 7 inches (672 pixels) in the image’s longest dimension. Images should be named with numbers 1 through 8, in your preferred viewing order. (5) 2 color prints of your work (selected from the images on your disk), 8 1/2 x 11”, with your name and the title. (6) Image script: numbered corresponding to slides or images on disk with the following information: Title, materials, dimensions, date and your name. (7) Name, address, phone number & e-mail of 2 people who can serve as a reference for you. (8) Specify the dates you could be available. Residencies are available April 15th through November 15th, 2008.There are 3 times to choose from: (a) April 15 to June 15, (b) June 15 to August 15, and (c) August 15 to November 15.

Application is competitive; typically 15 out of 100 applicants are invited to participate. No electronic applications are accepted. Make sure your name is on all documents and work samples. No application materials will be returned.

Application Deadline is March 8 2008. Materials must be postmarked by this date and arrive by 3/12/08.

Integrated Media LLC is a design/consulting firm in downtown Richmond. We design and consult on home automation and control systems for luxury residences in the Richmond area as well as nationally. We are looking for an intern to help us with graphic design for web, print and the development of graphical user interfaces. This internship could grow into a career with us for the right person. Call for outdoor sculpture entries.

Information

The University of Louisiana at Monroe, (ULM) School of Visual and Performing Arts, announces a call for entries to display outdoor sculpture. All Work will be on display for one year from date of installation beginning in April-May 2008. An honorarium of up to $750 is available for qualified artists. Seven works will be selected for exhibition. Safety of the audience is a prime consideration. Six 12″ high concrete pedestals of various dimensions are available to artist for securing work. One space is available on the lawn but this work must be secured through anchoring devices. Sculpture should be able to withstand a high traffic area and adverse weather conditions. Interested artists should submit slides, photographs, or digital images along with a resume, bio., and brief proposal (if necessary). All artists selected will be featured on the ULM Sculpture Garden website coming Jan. 2008.

Poictesme Literary Journal Call For Submissions

Poictesme, VCU’s premier literary and arts journal is currently seeking student and alumni artwork to feature in our upcoming journal. We are also seeking cover art. All mediums are permissible, including photographs/concept sketches or writing of performance art and extended media, as well as film stills if they convey themselves well in print. We are looking for both traditional and experimental works.

Requirements

The final deadline for submissions is February 18th. Pieces should be accompanied by a cover letter, and can be emailed to pwatem@gmail.com .
