Royall & Company is now accepting applications for their second annual summer internship program at Royall & Company, which is scheduled to start at the beginning of June. Applications and supporting materials are due on or before April 18, 2008.

Last year 15 college interns were selected from a diverse and highly competitive pool of applicants from schools all over the country. As interns, students (all rising seniors are eligible) can help to create opportunity for prospective college students and their families … learn how to plan and execute marketing campaigns … and potentially have a career waiting for them upon graduation. Last year more than 200 students applied for 10 positions—so they decided to expand the program to 15 because the students who applied were so outstanding.

Internship Programs Include:

Art Direction/Graphic Design
The Art Direction/Graphic Design intern will help execute the concept and design of effective direct marketing materials including mail, collateral, direct response websites, and various corporate and client support materials, while ensuring overall production quality.
Outstanding candidates will have:

* The ability to execute concepts and designs for direct marketing materials.
* The ability to read, analyze and, if necessary, research information for existing and newly assigned clients.
* The ability to maintain current and accurate files of reference materials for assigned clients.
* The ability to work collaboratively with the Production staff to ensure quality standards and deadlines are met.

Corporate Curator

The Corporate Curator intern will work closely with the President of Royall & Company to continue to build and maintain Royall & Company’s art collection as well as research new acquisitions.
Outstanding candidates will have:

* Art or Fine Arts major (special interest in 20th Century French and American art, photography, and decorative arts is desired).
* Strong oral and written communication skills.
* Attention to detail for cataloging acquisitions and keeping records of the corporate collection.
* Research skills.
* The ability to engage with dealers and representatives from auction houses.
* French language skills (desired, but not required).

Web Design

The Web Design intern will plan, design, and code standards-based, direct response websites. To claim this spot, you should have experience with HTML and CSS – but also be imaginative, artistic, and productive. We’re looking for a talented person, who can communicate, exhibit grace under pressure, and work within a fast-paced creative team to help develop standards-based, lead-generation websites.
Outstanding candidates will have:

* Experience implementing Web designs using HTML and CSS.
* Proactive problem-solving skills.
* Strong communication skills.
* Graphic design experience.
* Hand-coding experience.

General information

* All interns will work in our offices located in Richmond, Virginia
* Intern candidates should be available to begin working on or about June 9, 2008
* Our daily work schedule is 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. with an hour break for lunch.
* Interns will be paid $20/hour and will be paid bi-weekly.
* Interns will work full-time (40 hours/week) for 5-8 weeks, depending upon the position.
* Interns will be responsible for their own housing.
* When clients are visiting, all employees are expected to wear appropriate office attire.
* Our dress code is business casual when clients are not visiting our office.

Information

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts seeks a Special Events Coordinator to plan, schedule and coordinate events at the museum’s facilities for museum departments, corporate patrons, associations, and government agencies. As the liaison between the event planners and other museum staff, this position meets with appropriate museum staff to plan and execute special events; distributes information to other museum departments as needed; and contracts, as necessary, with outside vendors to secure services and products. In addition, this position serves as the museum’s chief scheduler of museum facilities and resources and assists the Director of Food Service and Special Events with various projects involving the marketing and sales of special events and museum facilities. Extensive evening and weekend hours will be required.

Qualifications: The selected candidate will have experience planning and coordinating large scale events and possess knowledge of etiquette, protocol, customer service and marketing principles. Exceptional oral and written communication skills are required as well as a demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize large projects. Some experience working with an automated scheduling system is a plus. A security background check will be required.

This is full-time salaried position and includes the museum’s health and dental benefits; life insurance; retirement benefits; paid holidays; and leave benefits.

The Center for Intellectual Property (CIP) at the University of Maryland University College is pleased to present a national contest for artists in all media and formats.
Pull clips, text, and images from the CIP’s website or from the public domain and use them to create a new work of art in any medium. You can add your own content or mix it up with some Creative Commons (CC) licensed art. All submissions should be CC-Licensed.
We encourage you to make use of at least one item created by the CIP. In the end, your message should tie in with the 2008 Symposium theme: Monopoly: Playing the innovation game.
Whoever gives us the most creative and coherent content remix will be awarded a prize valued at up to $300.

We are pleased to write to you introducing the 12th annual Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi that is being held from 16 October - 2 November 2008.

Sculpture by the Sea is the largest and most popular sculpture exhibition in Australia, staged over 3 weeks along 2km of the spectacular Bondi to Tamarama coastal walk in Sydney. The exhibition sites over 100 sculptures from Australian and overseas artists with an estimated 500,000 visitors and generates significant sculpture sales.

We are also pleased to announce the annual Sculpture by the Sea Conference “Sculpture in Public Space “will be held at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney on 16 October.

The Application and Entry Form outlines artist subsidies and following are the awards and subsidies confirmed to date:
• The Sculpture by the Sea Prize of $30,000 (non acquisitive);
• All artists who do not secure at least $2,000 from Sculpture by the Sea in the form of either: sales, prizes; or subsidies will receive the amount necessary to ensure they receive at least $2,000 towards their costs;
• The Clitheroe Foundation Mentor Program of $6,500 for each of 3 selected emerging Australian artists and $2,500 for each of their mentors;
• 4 subsidies of $3,000 for artists of site specific sculptures that by their nature are unlikely to be sold;
• Return economy class airfares to Sydney for 8 overseas artists;
• Return economy class airfares to Sydney for 8 interstate artists; and
• Material sponsorship for selected artists including aluminum, plasma or oxycut sheet metal.

The Synergy Project is an interactive experiment that will continually evolve throughout the duration of the exhibition at the Catherine G. Murphy Gallery. The artists will generate an environment where something unknown can happen in an environment in which two or more elements acting together, create an effect greater than what is predicted by the known effects of the individual elements. How to participate: Even the seemingly smallest act can create a significant change; After all, the journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step. Take the first step with us. To be the change, record your thoughts or ideas regarding this question in any manner you choose:

If you could make one simple change that might make a difference, what would it be?…to plant a tree, to pick up litter in your neighborhood, to say hello to the cashier at the grocery store, to donate blood.

With your responses, sculptors Melanie VanHouten and Andrew MacGuffie collaborate to create an interactive experiment that will continually evolve throughout the duration of their exhibition, The Synergy Project. March 8- April 13, 2008. Free and open to the public. Artist closing reception is Saturday , April 12, 2008; 6-8p.m.

The artists’ goal is to get you involved and to use the two wings of the Catherine G. Murphy Gallery as a laboratory to create something where once there was nothing. We will facilitate this event even though the shape or form it will take remains unknown. Ultimately, your thoughts, words and marks will write the story. Your participation will direct the outcome of this exhibit. The physical manifestations of collective thought that are created and revealed by your participation will become the work itself. Your response will become part of a larger reality we are creating through this interactive exhibition. We will generate a unified whole of these seemingly disparate responses. You may choose to
remain anonymous; however your submissions can not be returned, and will ultimately be recycled in our effort to be the change.

We encourage you to also visit the gallery often to witness the evolution take place and/or to participate on site. If you are unable to visit in person, please check the gallery website for weekly video updates.

Join in as Ithaca, NY celebrates their 9th Art in the Heart of the City public sculpture exhibit: Celebrating Sustainable Community, an Exploration in Greening Public Art. or the first time focusing within a theme, ‘08 will feature 3-6 works by three artists who use natural, recycled and/or sustainable materials to evoke the images, themes, issues and dreams of sustainable community.
