- Opportunity: full-time web design/development position
- Information: WSI – WebStrategies is rapidly growing internet marketing and development firm located in Richmond, VA comprised of eight employees. They are seeking a full-time website designer/developer. Candidate must possess a strong creative flair, be skilled in the graphic design of website layouts and the full development of non-dynamic websites using HTML and CSS.
This position is responsible for 1) designing website layouts based on client requirements, 2) turn designs into fully functional websites using CSS & HTML (and ASP for include statements), 3) use content (text, images, video, etc) as submitted by the client to create each page of the website and launch websites, 4) communicate with clients directly, 5) manage complete projects from conception to completion, 6) maintain and update existing websites, and 7) research latest web and internet marketing trends.
The work environment is very flexible including office, customer interaction and tele-commuting time. This is a work-from-home position and there are weekly team meetings at a central location.
- Requirements: Requirements:
2+ years website design and development experience
Design modern, professional website layouts using Photoshop/ImageReady
Develop search-engine friendly websites using Dreamweaver
Code websites using CSS
Develop Flash applications
Understand how dynamic websites are built so that you can edit/maintain them as necessary
Some knowledge of ASP is helpful for development of websites using include statements.
Awareness of website usability techniques and W3C compliance
Understand FTP, website hosting, DNS modifications, etc.
Some knowledge of Citrix is helpful.
Must have superior customer service and communication skills
Time management and organization skills are critical in this role
Knowledge of asp.net and/or php is helpful

- Information: Danielle Gauldin, Marketing Manager for Martin Horn (and Communication Arts alumni!) is seeking a PAID Graphic Design and Marketing intern for the summer.
This position can be established as full or part-time.
The pay is not stated; however, there is an understanding that the candidate would be paid a good rate.
This could be graphic design and/or marketing.
Some examples of duties might include:
. Newsletter design (within a template)
. Assisting with design and marketing materials for our company and our subsidiary, One Clean World (green-cleaning company)

- Opportunity: Festival
- Information: Chalk Fest is an annual outdoor street painting festival sponsored by the Cook Foundation and held in Gloucester, Virginia. Inspired by street artists in Europe who create works of art all over the city sidewalks, the event is located at the Main Street Center next to the Main Gloucester Library where artists of all ages paint with street chalk on the pavement. The first Chalk Fest was held in 2007 and was led by street painter/muralist Michael Kirby. Michael's mural "The Life & Legend of Pocahontas" is now on the Gloucester Library wall. The 2008 featured artist is Ann Hefferman from Santa Barbara, California.
This year there will be ACOUSTIC LIVE MUSIC throughout the day - singer/songwriters as well as bluegrass, acoustic blues and great cover tunes! The stellar line-up includes Julie Clark, Susan Greenbaum, Stone's Throw, Shane Cooley, Bill and Macon Gurley and Matt Thomas.
Beginning at 11AM, the musical artists will perform until 5PM while the visual artists create their street paintings. (Can you imagine how incredible it will be for the street painters to create accompanied by amazing live music?) Awards will be presented to the street painters around 5:30 PM and then from 6PM till 9PM there will be a celebration and more great music with the Hot House Band! Beer and wine will be available for purchase.

- Opportunity: Scholarship
- Information: TSS Memorial Sculpture Scholarship
Tri State Sculptors Education Association, Inc, is pleased to offer two awards of no less than $500 to two sculpture students (typically, one undergraduate and one graduate) who are attending any accredited art school, community college, college or university. In addition to the cash award, scholarship recipients also receive a one year free membership in Tri State and a waiver of the conference fee for the annual conference following receipt of the award, as well reimbursement of travel costs (actual expenses up to a limit of $ 250 upon submission of itemized receipts).
Nominations of sculpture students may come from any Tri State Member in good standing. Additionally, students may self nominate. Nominations should be in the form of a brief letter, and may be submitted via email to the TSS Scholarship Chair.
Scholarship submissions must be postmarked by April 30th of each year. Judging will take place in May and notification will be made shortly thereafter. The scholarships will be awarded at the following fall conference. Jurors will be drawn from all TSS members in good standing. A three person panel of jurors will include the TSS Scholarship Chair and two other TSS members selected by the current TSS president. TSS members sponsoring applicants for the scholarship will not be eligible to serve as Jurors for that particular session.
- Requirements: Scholarship submissions should include:
1. A short letter of nomination by the student’s faculty sponsor or other arts professional (optional but advised);
2. A CD with 6 to 12 jpeg images of your work (300 dpi resolution with an image size around 4”x5”) or 6 to 12 - 2” x 2” slides;
3. A written image narrative to accompany images. Please include title, media and dimensions;
4. A brief resume of the applicant (includes both college and home address and phone numbers (if different) e-mail address, exhibitions and awards, etc. A good format to follow is the College Art Association’s Artist R?sum? Conventions: http://www.collegeart.org/guidelines/resume.html

- Information: The Austrian American Foundation For the Fine Arts is pleased to announce their fellowship that gives both matriculating graduate students and recent M.F.A. graduates (as well as undergraduates) the opportunity to attend the International Summer Academy of Fine Arts program in Salzburg, Austria http://www.summeracademy.at/en/ The Summer Academy, founded by Oscar Kokoschka offers courses in virtually all disciplines and each year boasts 500 students from 40 different countries. Students receive expert instruction in artistic techniques ranging from the traditional to the most avant-garde. Courses include painting, drawing, illustration, etching, architecture, design, sculpture, jewellery design, photography, video art, and mixed media.
Our fellowship includes a travel stipend, housing and a small allowance. We have extended the application deadline to May 10th.

The Intern performs a full range of tasks relative to the design and production of publications, multimedia presentations, CD-ROM/DVDs and web pages. The intern digitally designs documents, publications, charts, and diagrams to effectively communicate information about Defense Visual Information Directorate (DVI) programs and functions. The intern also advises DVI staff on the effective use of graphics, visual marketing tools and techniques in promoting DVI products and services. Using content provided by DVI staff, the intern builds and designs effective briefings and presentations as required in support of meetings, committees, working groups and conferences. The intern advises DVI staff in all aspects of effective visual communication to include the development of presentations, briefings, web site design, and printed materials. The intern creates and formats digital files as required for postscript color separation for conventional printing and/or electronic dissemination.
Special skills include a working knowledge of Adobe PhotoShop SC2, Adobe Indesign CS3, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word and web design tools. A background in web design, presentation design and print media is desired.

- Information: Lauren Richeson, with the Chesapeake Bay Foundation is getting ready to launch their summer environmental outreach program in Richmond. They will be hiring a dozen or so staff to work with us to educate residents about the Chesapeake Bay Foundation and how they can help to protect and restore the Bay.
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) is the largest regional non-profit conservation organization working solely to save the Bay. Established in 1967, CBF has a staff of approximately 185 employees working in offices in Annapolis and Salisbury, Maryland; Richmond and Norfolk, Virginia; Harrisburg, Pennsylvania; and Washington, D.C., and in 17 field education program locations. CBF's headquarters office is in the Philip Merrill Environmental Center, a “cutting edge,” environmentally responsible building located in Annapolis, Maryland.

CONTEXT OF THE POSITION
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation seeks short-term Canvassers for its new Richmond, Virginia door-to-door citizen outreach office. Canvassers will be a part of an outreach and advocacy team designed to educate residents of the Commonwealth about CBF, water quality issues and what they can do to Save the Bay. Canvassers will work to organize communities in the Richmond area and build support for Chesapeake Bay restoration efforts through legislative action.
Essential Functions include:
Educate Virginia residents on water quality issues in Virginia.
Activate residents on key legislative priorities and invite residents to volunteer.
Fundraise for the Chesapeake Bay Foundation.
Build upon the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s 66,000 membership base in Virginia.
Other duties as assigned.
