Davidson County Community College: Fall Show

  • Slides/cds of original artwork in all media are now being accepted for the Fall Show at Davidson County Community College (DCCC). Submission deadline is June 1, 2008. The works will be exhibited in the Mendenhall Administration Building at DCCC, Lexington, NC from August 19, 2008 to December 12, 2008. CALENDAR AND INSTALLATION: 1. Work will be delivered and installed the week of August 11, 2008. Weekend deliveries are not possible. The works must be hand delivered and installed by the artist. The Exhibition Coordinator will be there to guide the installation. Artists must bring help if the works are too large to be handled by one person. 2. The Fall 2008 show will open with a reception on August 19. Art must hang the duration of the show, and must be picked up at the end of the show- Dec. 12. 3. Eight to twelve artists are selected for each show and given designated areas to use. Six to twelve pieces of work (depending on size) are accepted from each artist. OTHER SPECIFICS: 1. Artwork will be insured by the college. 2. In the event of a sale, the exhibition space will receive a 25% commission. 3. Not for sale work is acceptable. Insurance value must be given. 4. The space is responsible for collecting and reporting NC sales tax. 5. The site will print a color postcard, hold a reception, and provide the food and music. 6. A work by one artist will be selected to appear on the postcard. 7. There is no fee to enter, and no fees for participation. Please read the following requirements carefully. Incomplete submissions cannot be considered. The specific works to be displayed at DCCC will be selected from the submissions. Entries must be received by the deadline of June 1, as the selection will take place soon after that date. TO BE CONSIDERED FOR AN EXHIBITION, PLEASE SUBMIT BY June 1, 2008 : 1. A cover letter, stating that you are applying to the DCCC location 2. 10-20 slides of available work, numbered and labeled. (A CD ROM of low-resolution JPEG images is also acceptable. Please number JPEG files starting with 01.) No large files (we cannot open) or Power Point presentations are accepted. Include name, title, media, size and date, numbered to correspond with the image script. (Only send photos of works that are available for the show.) 3. A current resume, short artist statement and any supplementary materials 4. SASE with postage for return of materials

No mechanical reproductions, giclees, or the like will be allowed. 3. The location is interested in all styles of 2-D and 3-D media. Call for Existing Work or Proposals for Political Circus Art Exhibition

  • This exhibition is comprised of three components (or rings) assembled together to present contemporary popular culture as well as art influenced by the current presidential election and art reflecting more generally on American politics of the past few decades. Ring 2: Florida Weighs In Contemporary Artists from the southeast region responding to the 2008 Presidential campaigns will be selected from this open call to artists. Artists may submit existing works or propose to create a work or installation (including performance) for the exhibition. ALL MEDIA Deadline for submitting materials electronically: June 24, 2008 Opens: September 5, 2008 and runs through early November, 2008 Fee: no fee for submitting work for consideration. Selected artists making an installation will be awarded an honorarium of up to $500.00 to use to defray costs of making and installing work. Selected artists shipping work will be awarded up to $75.00 to defray costs of shipping and return of work. (Note: artists are responsible for all costs incurred in making work, travel, shipping work and return of work although the gallery will assist with those expenses up to the amounts noted above). Exhibition will be supported by an opening, advertising, exhibition announcement and affiliated symposium.   • The Free Lance-Star photo department is seeking a motivated and talented young photojournalist to apply for their Fall Semester internship. The photo department is in the process of reinventing itself through new leadership and with an increased emphasis on our web product. The ideal candidate is highly motivated and has superior shooting skills across the broad spectrum of news, sports, features, stories and studio work that is required at a daily newspaper. Prior multimedia experience is a plus. This 12-week Fall Semester internship, beginning in early September, offers the opportunity for a young photographer to build his or her portfolio while working for a daily newspaper with deep roots in a historic community. The internship is open to graduating college seniors. Pay is $6.75 an hour; interns are required to have their own car. K-5 Art Educator

  • The Education and Outreach Division of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is seeking a highly motivated teacher to teach art and develop curriculum for children K-grade 5. Actual teaching time in the classroom is 10 hours per week with an additional 5 hours to prepare materials, maintain studio, and assist the Youth Manager as needed. Responsible for incorporating into each lesson the museum’s collections, VA SOLs, sound research and appropriate cognitive and developmental levels/needs of students. Maintains good rapport with public school teachers, volunteers and museum staff. Participates in the evaluation and effectiveness of the program and implements change. Interested applicants must be available Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. and flexible to work an occasional Tuesday or Saturday for a few hours. Qualifications: Undergraduate degree from college or university in elementary art education or elementary education required. Some teaching experience in a classroom setting required.   • The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts seeks a Communications and Marketing Coordinator to coordinate the public relations and marketing activities of the Marketing and Public Affairs Office. This position develops and implements advertising campaigns and promotional materials; develops and monitors the department's budget and marketing budgets for exhibitions and programs; and promotes VMFA through frequent media contact/relations. In addition, this position oversees materials preparation and distribution; responds to public inquiries; and supervises a wage Administrative Staff Assistant, volunteers and interns. Such responsibilities require timeliness, attention to detail and accuracy in a demanding work environment as well as the ability to work independently. QUALIFICATIONS: The selected candidate must have knowledge and experience in planning, organizing, implementing and evaluating a comprehensive advertising and promotions plan as well as knowledge of public relations practices, especially media relations; knowledge of personal computers and related software applications (Windows 2000, Word, Excel, Outlook, and the internet. Familiarity with Vocus Public Relations database, email, social networking and web based programs helpful); and experience with budget development and bookkeeping. The selected candidate must demonstrate the ability to work independantly, communicate effectively, orally and in writing; to present ideas and concepts accurately and creatively; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others; to work within established deadlines and budget limitations; and to supervise staff.
