Residency Program

Monday, September 29th, 2008

Opportunity

Lobot Gallery is currently seeking national and international artists for Young Artist in Residence Program.

Information

Seeking hardworking young artists (18-38) who are just establishing their professional careers to participate in one month residencies at our West Oakland gallery. Artists recently completing an undergraduate art degree are our main focus, but any young artist who displays a seriousness of purpose and dedication to their work will gladly be considered. Artists in any media are accepted.

Artists are expected to spend the residency producing work which will culminate in an open studio show at the end of the month. They will be required to help out with gallery duties at least 10 hrs a week, which includes emailing, helping set up and hang shows, cleaning/maintenance of the gallery, and attending events. Lobot provides artists with a large personal studio space adjacent to the gallery and a small, private room. Bathrooms and kitchen space are shared with other live/work artists. The resident will also have access to a full screen printing shop, work space, and a music practice studio. The residency is free, and there is no application fee.

We are using a rolling application deadline for the 2008 schedule. This means that we are filling the residency as we go. We are accepting applications now for the spots beginning in October. We will fill the spots as we find artists who we think fit best, so send your application materials as far in advance as possible.

Requirements

Artists are required to submit a CV, a short statement about what they would like to work on during their residency, and 10-15 images of their work. Ideally, artists will submit digital images of their work. We prefer to see images on a website, as emailed images do not always open properly. Preferably, all written materials will be sent in email format. We are however flexible on this process and will accept hard copies in the form of paper print outs and slides. If you submit any artwork which you would like returned, you must include a SASE.

For more information on the application process or for questions please email residency@lobotgallery.com .

Chroma, Inc. Trial Program

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008

Opportunity

Opportunity to experiment with paint lines from Chroma, Inc.

Information

Chroma, Inc. would like to extend an invitation to your Junior and Senior students to participate in a Trial Program with our professional acrylic line – Interactive, and our oil line – Archival. All that we ask in return is that the students visit Chroma, Inc.’s website ( www.chromaonline.com ) to log onto Paint Talk, our vibrant on-line community forum to post feedback, comments and examples of their artwork created with either of these paints.

We would like to have at the minimum 6 oil painters and 6 acrylic painters, and at the maximum 12 of each from your school.

Listed below you will find descriptions of each paint line:

Interactive Professional Artists’ Acrylics-
Unlike traditional acrylics, all 75 of the “interactive” colors do not suddenly form a skin. This changes the painting process and gives you plenty of time to blend and rework unresolved areas of a painting. The patent-pending formulation allows even touch-dry paint to be reworked or wiped off to blend or reveal layers. Archival quality and lightfast, these intense colors dry to a satin-like finish without a plastic look or feel, and with minimal color shift. Chroma, Inc. will provide the students with 12 color choices, as well as one of each medium in this product line.

Archival Oils-
Archival Oils is the only patented oil paint in the world offering long-term flexibility. This inherent flexibility provides artists unsurpassed painting freedom by allowing them to circumvent classical rules of fat over lean painting. Also, we have chosen our ingredients for performance as well as safety. Our products have low or no odor, and a low possibility for skin irritation. Chroma, Inc. will provide the students with 10 colors, as well as one of each medium in this product line.

Requirements

Must be junior or senior.

Please e-mail Chroma’s Resident Artist, Jen VonStein at jvonstein@chromaonline.com if you need any further information.
