Opportunity

Lexington Art League’s upcoming exhibition, Paintpresent

Information

In painting, like most contemporary art media, one can find a great variety of techniques being practiced, images being
created, and content being discussed. We can, however, identify specific major currents that resonate with our present
conditions. With this in mind LAL seeks work that addresses any or all of the following phenomena: decoration density,
fantastic figuration, and architectural anomie.

Decoration Density: Contemporary painting practice has redeveloped earlier ideas of abstraction into dense ornamentation
using layered, riotous shapes and colors.

Fantastic Figuration: Contemporary painting practice has reengaged the figure to create a new form that is largely
extraordinary in comparison to everyday experience.

Architectural Anomie: Contemporary painting practice has transformed the grandeur of nature into the introspection of
interior spaces.

Appropriate work for Paintpresent may engage a wide range of media in its investigation of these themes.
Exhibition
The selected works will hang in the LAL’s Loudoun House Gallery from March 14 to April 26, 2009. The Exhibition
Reception will be on March 27, 6-9 p.m.

Absolutely no early removal of artwork is allowed for any reason.

Sales
Not all works need to be for sale, but the Lexington Art League retains a 30% commission on the retail price of all works
sold in the gallery. The artist must determine retail price, which is sent with the application materials.

Requirements

Entry Fee and Procedure
There is no entry fee for this exhibition. December 19th is the deadline to receive all entries. Please note the LAL cannot be
held responsible for postal delays. Send all entry information to: Paintpresent, Lexington Art League, 209 Castlewood Drive,
Lexington, KY 40505. Review will be by slide or digital images, although we prefer to receive digital images.

To submit an application please send:
Up to 10 digital images
Image list with title, media, dimensions, and date for each work
Resume
Artist statement (optional)

Applications will be reviewed as they are received. Final notification letters will be sent the week of January 19, 2009.

Shipping
Artists are responsible for transportation of works to and from the exhibition, including all costs associated.

Slides and Digital Images
Digital images must be clearly labeled with title and entry number; in other words, save each image using the title and entry
number (for example: #1 Blue Sky, #2 Untitled 1, #3 Untitled 2). All digital images must be submitted as JPEG files on a PC
compatible CD. Save all images at 300 dpi, and no larger than 10” on the longest side. Please do not attempt to send
digital images through e-mail.
Submit one slide for each work. Please remember that the quality of your slides
may influence the selection committee’s decisions.
2D works must be strongly framed, wired on the back for hanging, or otherwise prepared for installation.

If works are framed with glass, Plexiglass is recommended and preferred over glass for all works that are shipped.

Frames of fragile or precious materials that cannot withstand normal handling and storage will not be accepted.
