Artists-In-Residence

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Opportunity

The Artist-In-Residence Program offers professional writers, composers, and all visual and performing artists the opportunity to pursue their particular art form while surrounded by the inspiring landscape of the park.
For additional information visit http://www.nps.gov/acad/supportyourpark/artistinresidence.htm

Information

In the spring and fall, the park provides housing to participants for two-week to four-week periods. No additional stipend is available. In return, participating artists are asked to donate to the park collection a piece of work representative of their style and their stay. These creative works will be displayed on a rotating schedule or shared with the public through other appropriate means during the upcoming seasons. Artists are also asked to participate in one public program per week of their residency such as demonstrations, talks, exploratory hikes, or performances. In the fall, artists work with fourth - eighth grade students. Programs can be tailored to your medium, interests, and experiences, and only consume a few hours of your stay.

Requirements

Applications for the program are accepted beginning November and must be received by January 15 for consideration for the following season.
Notification will be made by April.
There is a $25 non-refundable application fee for applying to the residency. Make checks payable to the National Park Service. Any medium that involves collecting or altering park resources would be in conflict with national park preservation goals and would be deemed inappropriate for a residency.
Please send six copies of the following items:
1. A one- to two-page resumé and summary of creative works.
2. One-page statement stating what you hope to accomplish and achieve during a term as an artist-in-residence at AcadiaNational Park.
3. Description of public/school presentation.
4. Names and contact information of two references who know your work.
5. An appropriate sample of your recent work (i.e., six slides of different works (or JPEGs) from visual artists; six copies of a brief manuscript excerpt, short story, article, poetry, etc.—maximum of six pages—from writers and poets; one 1/2″ VHS videotape or DVD from dancers and other performing artists.)
6. A self-addressed, stamped envelope for return of sample materials. (Written materials will not be returned.)

Opportunity

Opportunity to have film shown at the International Festival of Animated Films AniFest 2009, Czech Republic.

Information

In addition to a week-long meeting over international animation production, AniFest strives to facilitate the best contacts among Central European artists who are engaged in animation. This year the CAS Presentation which is a comprehensive selection of Czech, Austrian and Slovak animated films was announced with this intention.

AniFest is not only about meeting over animated films with a serious face. Is also provides an opportunity to absorb the largest possible amount of the animated films’ essence – humour. The ability to be playful and at times return to one’s childhood: those are other festival faces. So is the children’s film competition, the Schools of Animation where children try their hands at making their very own first animated films or just pleasant moments in a cinema while watching a movie. The organizer announces the international competition in the following film categories:
1. Animated Films of up to 5 Minutes

2. Animated Films of 5 to 15 Minutes

3. Animated Films of 15 to 60 Minutes

4. Feature-Length Films

5. Commissioned Films Competition: Works that are funded and produced for commercial or promotional purposes; TV films and series made based on a TV broadcaster’s order can be accepted for the Competition, but only one episode of the series can be entered. This category also includes commercials, music videos, animated credits, animated spots, educational films, etc. In all cases, these must be short films made to order.

6. School Competition: Collections of films approximately 40 minutes in length comprised of student films made between September 2007 and the end of 2008 can be entered. Films can also be entered individually in the appropriate Student Films Competition.

7. Student Films: Films made by film school students to fulfill their school duties. The film can also be part of a school collection.

8. Internet Animation: The competition is announced only on the Internet and the winner is selected by audience voting.
For additional information and entry form, visit www.anifest.cz

Requirements

1. More than 50% of the film’s length is made by animation. For the competing films, the Festival adopts the definition of animation formulated by the International Animated Film Association, ASIFA: “The art of animation is the creation of moving images through the manipulation of all varieties of techniques apart from live action methods”. The type of animation technique is not limited.
2. The film was completed after 1 January 2007.
3. The film has not previously competed in any previous editions of the Festival.
4. The film is in a 35 mm, BETACAM SP PAL or DVD format.

Wisconsin Film Festival

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

Opportunity

Opportunity to have work shown at Wisconsin Film Festival.

Information

The Wisconsin Film Festival welcomes narrative, documentary, experimental, and animated films or videos of any length.
Although these guidelines talk a lot about Wisconsin filmmakers, the Festival is open to films from around the world. The largest number of films are submitted in the Open Reel category.
For full guidelines as well as film submissions, visit http://2009.wifilmfest.org/

Requirements

There are three categories:
Wisconsin’s Own (films of any length from filmmakers with “Wisconsin ties”) deadline: Monday, December 1, 2008
Wisconsin Student Shorts (films under 60 minutes by Wisconsin college students or Wisconsin residents attending college in another state) deadline: Wednesday, December 31, 2008
Open Reel (general submissions of any length, open worldwide) deadline: Monday, December 1, 2008
Your film must have been completed after January 1, 2007.
Make sure your DVD or VHS tape is not blank and does not freeze or skip. Please take the time to play it and watch it all the way through on a different player than you used to burn it. We have lots of different versatile playback devices here, but we can’t watch something that’s badly written to disc or tape.
Label your DVD or VHS tape with the name of the film, the director’s name, and the name of the contact person if it’s different than the director.
Keep your submission materials simple. There’s no need to create an elaborate marketing package. A plain white paper sleeve is as good as anything else. Put your energy and money into your crew, your other festival submissions, or your next film.
We will notify you via email when your submission materials arrive, so you know that they got here. And we’ll notify everyone of the final status of their films no later than February 15, 2009.

Opportunity

Now in its sixth year, top-tier, international awards competition, The Accolade, announces its Call for Entries for filmmakers, television producers and videographers.

Information

The Accolade is a non-traditional, virtual venue. Awards go to those filmmakers, television producers and videographers who produce fresh, standout entertainment, animation and compelling documentaries. It is a showcase for cinematic gems and unique voices.

Most importantly, The Accolade team works passionately to help worthy productions gain the publicity and distribution they deserve. That is what The Accolade is all about: helping winners of this coveted award achieve recognition and distribution opportunities.

Every filmmaker, television producer and videographer wants credibility associated with their work and buzz about their productions. In addition to target press releases, clips of the Best of Show productions are streamed on The Accolade Web site, reaching thousands of industry professionals. The Accolade is an award recognized for its rigorous evaluation process by buyers and distributors, inspiring confidence that winning productions are of high quality.

Quality and creativity are celebrated in three levels of awards: Best of Show, Award of Excellence and Award of Merit. Best of Show honors are granted only if worthy productions are discovered. Likewise, no more than 15% of entries are granted Awards of Excellence. Notable artistic and technical productions are recognized at the Award of Merit level. Annually, a special award is given to a production that makes a significant contribution to social change or a humanitarian effort.

The Accolade receives entries from all over the world: Australia, Brazil, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Columbia, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom and the United States.

MovieMaker Magazine recently included The Accolade among the Top 25 Festivals “Worth The Entry Fee.” The article said, “Past participants can’t stop raving about the professional opportunities participation in this event has generated for their work.”
