Opportunity

Design a poster that depicts the transformation of America into a country that holds its leaders accountable; that strives to restore eroded civil liberties; that works to change policies that are unconstitutional.

Information

January 11, 2009 will mark seven years since the first detainees were brought to the prison at Guantánamo Bay. Gitmo has become a symbol for the Bush administration’s worst excesses—including indefinite detention, torture, and unconstitutional military commissions. And Guantánamo is only one part of what has been an eight-year campaign against the Constitution. Inside the U.S., we have seen warrantless wiretapping, indiscriminate arrests of immigrants, and unconscionable profiling of minorities. But with a new administration, we have an opportunity to end these policies. President-elect Obama has said that we need to renew our commitment to the Constitution and “regain America’s moral stature in the world.” Help us convey to President-elect Obama and his administration how important it is that they fulfill this pledge. The winning submission will win $500 and will be used as part of the ACLU’s national campaign. For additional information, visit http://www.aclu.org/restoreamerica/

Deadline: Sunday, January 4th
