Submit proposals for site-specific works on the grounds of the 450-acre I-Park artists’ community in rural East Haddam, Connecticut (U.S.). 

Information

Open to Environmental artists, landscape/garden designers, other visual and performance-based artists.  Twelve artists/designers will be selected by a three-person independent panel for two, two-week residency sessions  (August 17 – 31 and September 2 – 16, 2009), with a grant of $1,200 per invited artist plus up to an additional $1,000 for reimbursement of travel costs and/or materials.  Lodging and meals will be provided for the term of the residency.  A public event on September 19, 2009 will showcase the work.

The University of Louisiana at Monroe, (ULM) School of Visual and Performing Arts, announces a call for entries for public display of outdoor sculpture. 

Information

All Work will be on display for one year from date of installation beginning in April-May 2009. An honorarium of up to $1000 is available for qualified artists to assist in covering all cost associated with delivery, set up and take down of work. With the continued growth of this program, alternative sites around the Monroe, West Monroe area are being pursued. With acceptance into this exhibition, artists may be invited to display their work through another year at these venues and will be provided with an additional honorarium. Six to seven works will be selected for exhibition.  Six 12″ high concrete pedestals of ranging from 3′x3′ to 3′x5′are available to artists for securing work. One space is available on the lawn but this work must be secured through anchoring devices. Safety of the audience is a prime consideration. Sculpture must be able to withstand adverse weather conditions and installation in a high traffic area.

Interested artists should submit slides, photographs, or digital images along with a resume, bio.,  and brief proposal (if necessary).  Include SASE for return of material. New Image Gallery invites artists whose work includes aspects of both photography and drawing to submit entries for the 17th Annual New Image Photography Exhibition, “Photography and Drawing.”

Information

This exhibition will take place at James Madison University at the New Image Gallery between April 6, 2009 and May 1, 2009. Work may include photographic processes, but also encompasses source materials such as artists’ notebooks.

Work must have been completed within the past five years, and not previously exhibited in New Image Gallery.

Participate in the Zen and the Art of the Repetitive workshop.

Information

This two-day course will walk students through a variety of mold making and casting techniques using Townsend Atelier’s  silicone and urethane materials.  Through lecture, demonstrations, and lots of hands-on experience, students will be instructed how to make a one-piece and a two-piece re-usable mold, how to make castings, and how to create a variety of post-finishes.  Techniques for using Knead-a-Mold, Brush-a-Mold, Townsend Casting  Resin and finishes will be covered.  This workshop is perfect for any artist or crafts person wanting to learn how to work with these versatile materials or for those who would just  like  a refresher course.

The School of the Arts seeks several highly responsible and motivated counselors to assist with the 2009 Summer Intensive: Residency Program for High School Students

Information

Counselors will be required to live in on campus housing with the high school students and assist them 24-hours a day (times depend on your daily assigned shift) during the three-week program.  The program will take place July 12 – 31, 2009.   Daily activities will include escorting students to and from:
8:00 – 8:45 am Breakfast
9:00 – 12:00 Morning Classes
12:00 – 1:00 pm Lunch
1:15 – 4:15 pm Afternoon Classes
6 – 6:45 pm Dinner
7 – 9:00 pm Evening Modules
10:00 – 12 am Evening Social Activities

Counselors will be expected to serve as ambassadors of the University to visiting students and their parents, attend all training sessions, attend daily de-briefing meetings with the Head of Residence Life and the Director, and participate in field trips and other group activities.

Seeking high energy, enthusiastic role models with the strong organizational skills necessary to get assigned students to all scheduled activities in a timely manner.   Counselor qualifications also include:
•    Outstanding communication skills
•    A passion for working with young people
•    Excellent customer service skills including patience and the desire to do whatever it takes to be certain the students have their needs met at all times
•    A clear understanding of University and residence hall policies and procedures, as well as the ability to monitor behavior and convey policies and procedures to high school students
•    The ability to clearly and assertively address minor infractions and misunderstandings with students
•    To be able to provide leadership and to closely monitor the students throughout the program to ensure safety and rule compliance
•    A high level of sensitivity and responsiveness to student needs

Preference will be given to applicants who are: (1) VCU School of the Arts graduate and undergraduate students, (2) Resident Assistants or those who have previous experience as a residence hall assistant, (3) rising juniors and seniors, (4) experienced working at summer camps for high school students, (5) security guards, and/or (6) teachers.

Counselors will be trained on June 23rd - 25th, 2009 from 9 am – 4 pm.  Your attendance is mandatory.  Compensation will include a room and all meals during the program, as well as $1,300. (Please note that taxes will be deducted from this amount.)

During the spring, 2009 semester, VCU Dance offers open community classes in Elemental Body Alignment System (EBAS), taught by faculty member Scott Putman.

Information

Taught by VCU Dance faculty member Scott Putman, Elemental Body Alignment System (EBAS) is a series of stretching and strengthening exercises designed to integrate the body while increasing flexibility, range of motion and core strength. The focus of EBAS is to understand basic principles of initiating and anchoring movements from the pelvis while finding efficient and effective alignment through experiential anatomy. This system empowers the learner to develop a consciousness for integrating and articulating body parts while assisting the student in finding a deeper understanding of the body’s integrated kinetic pote. No dance experience required.  Classes held Tuesdays & Thursdays from 6:00-7:30 pm.

Six-Week Session: $180
January 20 - February 26, 2009 or
March 17 - April 23, 2009

Classes take place at the VCU Dance Center, 12 North Brunswick Street, Richmond. Classes may be pro-rated. There are no refunds, and classes are non-transferable.
