The exhibition will run at four concurrent venues along the Connecticut River Valley, beginning in August 2009. Venues include the Brattleboro Museum, The Mill (an exciting new art space with 32,000 square feet devoted to contemporary art exhibition space) Spheris Gallery, and Great River Arts. The show is juried by Denise Markonish of Mass MOCA.

The program begins in the old town of Pietermaritzburg, also known as Mgungundlovu (the name of Zulu King Dingane), the former capital of the KwaZulu-Natal province, and concludes in the economic hub of Africa, Johannesburg, the mining metropolis. Students will discover the rich Zulu culture through participating in homestays and witnessing traditional customs, religious practices and cultural performances. This program will take you on an academic and experiential journey into the fascinating complexities of South Africa and Zulu life. This workshop is part of a larger Travel Education Week sponsored by Hostelling International USA, with seminars being held in many cities across the United States, from February 28 through March 7, 2009. HI-USA’s travel education workshops help novice travelers better prepare for travel, whether here in the United States or abroad. Emphasizing how to travel safely, affordably, and responsibly, workshop topics include planning and budgeting, accommodations and transportation, and learning about and respecting cultural differences.
