Portfolio Showcase

Opportunity

The Center for Fine Art Photography invites photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought to participate in Portfolio Showcase, Volume 3 Book and Online Exhibition.

Information

Fifteen photographers will be chosen to display their twelve-image portfolio in The Center for Fine Art Photography’s Portfolio ShowCase Volume 3: Book and Online Exhibition. The show will be featured on the Center’s web site at www.c4fap.org from June 1 - June 30, 2009 and will remain online for the next two years. The Center is pleased to provide artists with an economical means of having their work reviewed by an international juror and exhibited with no printing, framing or shipping costs involved.

Requirements

Deadline April 28, 2009

- The entry fee for this call for entry is $65.00 for Members and $85.00 for Non-Members for the first body of work (12 images). Each additional portfolio, regardless of membership, is $85.00.  There is no limit on the number of portfolios that may be submitted.  Membership is not required to submit work. Photographer’s becoming a member when registering for the show will receive the member discounted entry fee. The annual Membership dues are $57.00.

Warhol’s Photographs and Pictures

The University of Richmond Museums presents Warhol’s Photographs and Pictures: Selections from the Gift of The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, on view from March 20 to May 15, 2009.

Information

The exhibition includes more than fifty photographs taken by Andy Warhol (American, 1928-1987) from 1970 to 1987. With photographs ranging from Polaroid portrait sittings to black-and-white candid shots and landscapes, the exhibition offers insight into Warhol’s artistic process and creative milieu.

The exhibition is made up of selections from a gift of 102 Polaroid photographs in addition to 51 black-and-white silver gelatin prints as part of the Andy Warhol Photographic Legacy program. In celebration of the twentieth anniversary of the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, the organization donated more than 28,500 original Warhol photographs valued in excess of $28 million and divided amongst 183 college and university art museums in the United States. This initiative sought to provide greater access to many of Warhol’s works that have remained unseen.

The entry fees are:
• General entry fee is $40 inclusive of GST for the first proposal;
• Concession entry fee is $25 inclusive of GST per proposal. Those eligible include full time students, the unemployed and health care card holders (please provide proof of eligibility, a photocopy of your card will suffice);
• Additional entries. Artists may enter up to 3 works for consideration. For every additional work entered a fee of $25 and another entry form is required (photocopies are fine)
For overseas artists: entry fees can be paid by credit card or by international money order in Australian dollars. Applications will not be accepted if they include payments made in any other currency.

Opportunity

Western Kentucky University, located in Bowling Green Kentucky, seeks artist exhibition proposals for group and solo exhibitions for the 2009-2010 academic year.

Information

The Fine Arts Center galleries at WKU, curated and maintained by the Department of Art, are located on the second floor of the Ivan Wilson Fine Arts Center and comprise the main, two-story University Gallery and the newly developed 2D Corridor Gallery, opened in 2006. Conveniently laid out and well lit, the gallery houses regular faculty and student shows and a wide variety of temporary exhibitions. Between sixteen and twenty-two shows a year are exhibited in the galleries.

The Main University Gallery has a glass entrance with approximately 88 linear feet of wall space available on the first floor and 100 feet of available wall space on the second floor. The walls are a low pile grey carpeted surface.

The 2D Corridor Gallery consists of locked glass cases that have just over 90 linear feet of space, are six feet high and six inches deep. The walls are a low pile grey carpet.

Submissions for exhibition are reviewed on a yearly basis by the Gallery Director and an advisory committee of WKU Art faculty members.

All media will be considered for exhibition, including video and installation.

- Selected artists for Main Gallery exhibitions will receive a $300 honorarium and are invited to provide an artist lecture and attend a gallery reception at the opening or closing of their exhibition.
- Postcards will be produced for Main Gallery Exhibitions.
- Artists for both Main and Corridor Gallery exhibitions are expected to cover the costs of shipping / transporting their work to and from the gallery.
- Artists are responsible for providing their own insurance while work is on view in the University Galleries.

Artists interested in exhibiting in the University Galleries, WKU should send
1. A resume including previous exhibition record
2. artist’s statement
3. 10-20 images of recent work on CD. Images must be 72 dpi, JPEG format, 800 pixels at smallest dimension, and must be labeled with the artist’s last name and entry number corresponding with the list provided. Example: LASTNAME_1.jpg
4. A proposal referencing the specific gallery requested, if applicable.
5. A self-addressed, stamped envelope (at least 9″ x 12″) for return of information and slides.

Amendment , a student literature and arts journal at VCU promoting social change through artistic expression, is currently accepting submissions for our fall 2009 issue.

Our mission is to expand publishing opportunity for emerging artists and writers, while increasing awareness on social and political issues. We publish poetry, short fiction and creative nonfiction, essays, photography, drawings, paintings, and other forms of fine and applied arts. Your work may address issues of gender, sexuality, class, racism, oppression, politics, religion, and any other issue you feel is of great importance.
