Individual works may have a maximum weight of 75 pounds. We are removing all size restrictions on works for this exhibition.

ArtPrize Open Art Contest

The Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts (UICA) invites artists to submit proposals for ArtPrize, an international exhibition featuring the world’s largest art prize.

Information

ArtPrize is a radically open competition and citywide exhibition. ArtPrize welcomes all media and is available to any artist who can secure an approved location to show their work.

ArtPrize has been created to reboot the conversation between artists and audiences on a grand scale. There is no single curator. You will submit your proposal and then negotiate for a space in one of many ArtPrize venues across the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA. The prizes will be awarded based on public vote.

Things you should know:

• ArtPrize is an international competition
• The top 10 finalists win a cash prize
• The top prize is $250,000
• The exhibition will be presented from September 23 -
October 10, 2009

Virginians for the Arts (VFTA) and its sister organization, Virginians for the Arts Foundation, work together to advance the arts in the state of Virginia by increasing public awareness of the important contributions the arts make to the life, culture, and economy of the state. VFTA advocates for public funding for the Virginia Commission for the Arts, which makes operating grants essential to the state’s arts organizations. Members and contributors are arts organizations and individual advocates for the arts throughout Virginia.

Job would include assisting the Executive Director with admin and clerical work and assists maintaining website/Facebook. Maintains membership database.

Requirements

Familiarity with Word, Excel. Organized, great attention to detail, concientious, strong work ethic, enthusiastic and willing to learn new things. Strong writing skills

Sculpture Scholarship

Apply to receive possible scholarship from the Tri State Sculptors Education Association, Inc.

Information

Tri State Sculptors Education Association, Inc., is pleased to offer two awards of no less than $500 to two sculpture students (typically, one undergraduate and one graduate) who are attending any accredited art school, community college, college or university. In addition to the cash award, scholarship recipients also receive a one-year free membership in Tri State and a waiver of the conference fee waived for the next annual conference following receipt of the award.

Nominations of sculpture students may come from any Tri State Member in good standing.  Additionally, students may self nominate. Nominations should be in the form of a brief letter, and may be submitted via email to the TSS Scholarship Chair.

Judging will take place in May and notification will be made shortly thereafter. The scholarships will be awarded at the following fall conference. Jurors will be drawn from all TSS members in good standing. A three-person panel of jurors will include the TSS Scholarship Chair and two other TSS members selected by the current TSS president. TSS members sponsoring applicants for the scholarship will not be eligible to serve as Jurors for that particular session.

Requirements

Scholarship submissions must be postmarked by April 30th

Scholarship submissions should include:

1. A short letter of nomination by the student’s faculty sponsor or other arts professional (optional but advised);

2. A CD with 6 to 12 jpeg images of your work (300 dpi resolution with an image size around 4″x5″) or 6 to 12 - 2″ x 2″ slides;

3. A written image narrative to accompany images. Please include title, media and dimensions;

4. A brief resume of the applicant (includes both college and home address and phone numbers (if different) e-mail address, exhibitions and awards, etc. A good format to follow is the College Art Association’s Artist Résumé Conventions: http://www.collegeart.org/guidelines/resume.html

5. SASE for return of materials;

we’d like to incorporate that in a miniature size and see how many “words” our artists postcard can write!
