Cycling with design: SEOUL style, the theme of the Seoul Cycle Design Competition, aptly represents the goal of nurturing a healthy cycling culture. Embracing this kind of culture is an important part of an eco-friendly traffic system. Seoul is working hard to become a city that sets global standards that will lead the way in urban development well into the 21st century. The competition promotes cycling as a healthy and environmentally sound activity that every city dweller can enjoy. Cycling with design: SEOUL style hopes to inspire the kind of designs that conform to the city’s cycling infrastructure and the sensibilities of Seoul residents, the 2010 World Design Capital.

Three categories:
Cycle Design: recreational cycles, urban cycles. alternative cycles, etc.
Cycle Fashion and Accessories Design: clothing, helmets, gloves, footwear, carriers, raincoats, lights, control levers, etc.
Cycling Infrastructure: cycle storage equipment, cycle racks, traffic systems for cycling, cycle rental systems, IT device, etc.

Requirements

Deadline for submissions: July 5, 2010

- Projects should be original.
- Projects may not be marked with any form of identification.
- Projects should be kept confidential and not be published or exposed to digital media
before the results are announced.
The following infractions will lead to exclusion from the competition. If an infraction is discovered after the results announcement, this submission will be disqualified, and the disqualified individual/team will be compelled to return all prizes:
- designs already awarded in and/or outside Korea
- designs that violate intellectual property rights
- designs that have been produced in series and commercialized will not be accepted.

Selected entries will be exhibited in Seattle, WA at the Photo Center during the months of August and September 2010. The exhibition title, Present Tense, refers to state of the medium today. In recent times, we have heard intense debate about the direction of photography: questions about the future of the medium, fears surrounding the decrease in magazine production and funding for content, the threat of potential extinction of the physical book, cynical commentaries that originality is a thing of the past…now is the time for photographers to take stock of their work and their vision, to take risks, rather than play it safe. We are calling out to you to inspire the medium! Show us your perspective and vision of these changing times.

Entry Fee: Flat rate of $75 for a series of 10-12 pjgs. Payment must be in US dollars and is non-refundable.

To enter:
1. Print out the entry form from website (http://www.pcnw.org/gallery/entries.php) and fill it out legibly.
2. Burn 10-12 jpg images on a CD - not DVD, and include a PDF file on the CD that has your Artist Statement & Print Sizes & Print Types and Your Name. (The juror will view this PDF).
3. Put everything in an envelope and mail with your payment to Photo Center NW, 15th Annual Contest, 900 12th Ave, Seattle, WA 98122. Materials will not be returned.

- Submissions accepted via CD only (not DVD).
- Must be readable on a PC.
- Jpegs only. Must submit a minimum of 10 jpgs from a related body of work.
- Resolution 72 ppi and no larger than 1280 pixels at in the longest dimension.
- Jpgs must be titled in this order: The photographer’s name, correlating letter to match the printed out entry form & the title of the image. (for example: JohnDoe _A_Untitled.jpg)
- Required PDF file on the CD that includes your name, artist statement or project statement. This statement should be no longer than 4 paragraphs. After the statement, list the image size of your work and print type. (for example: 16 x 20, Silver Gelatin Prints). Do not send a hard copy of the statement-it won’t be used.
- The CD and CD case must be labeled with the photographer’s name.
- Images submitted may not have been previously exhibited at the Photographic Center Northwest Gallery.

The Experimental Media Series was created to showcase the new media work of exceptional and under-recognized talent and provide a venue for experimental media in the Washington, DC area. SUBMISSION GUIDELINES
1) Sound and video artists may submit 1 piece in DVD or CD Format:
- 1 CD with 1 audio track. CD cover and disc must be labeled with the ARTIST NAME(S), LENGTH, TITLE and YEAR of the work.
OR
- 1 DVD with 1 video piece. DVD cover and disc must be labeled with the ARTIST NAME(S), LENGTH, TITLE, and YEAR of the work.
2) All video and sound works will have a maximum run‐time of 5 minutes per piece. Any individual works that exceed 00:05:00 will not be considered.
3) Materials will not be returned. Do not send original copies of work or source material stored on DV, HI‐8 or DAT cassettes.

DVD FORMATTING
1) Video works should be burned to DVD in NTSC format.
2) Artists submitting DVDs should include a leading title screen in the sequence with no menu, labeling the disc with the ARTIST NAME(S), LENGTH, TITLE and YEAR of the work.
3) Please send freshly burned disc copies of work. Do not send files or ftp links to WPA email addresses.
