PeopleTowels is sponsoring their second annual design competition, The Big Green Dream Contest.  The theme, in keeping with the PeopleTowels’ sustainability message, asks designers to graphically illustrate their vision for a better planet. The mission of the Charleston Fashion Week’s® Emerging Designer Competition: East (EDCE) is to offer a platform for aspiring designers living in the Eastern United States to showcase their talent on the runway at Charleston Fashion Week® and gain the attention of national press and buyers.

Information

Sixteen designers will be chosen by the Fashion Panel as semifinalists and will show their collections on the nights of Tuesday, March 22 through Friday, March 25, 2011.  Four semifinalists will show each night, final schedule to be announced by Charleston Fashion Week® at a later date.  One (1) designer from each night will then be selected by the panel of judges as a finalist to advance to Saturday evening and the chance to be named the Grand Prize Winner.

Collections must focus on Fall 2011 or Swimwear and include 12 looks.  Semifinalists will be asked to show eight (8) looks the night of your runway presentations (nights of Tuesday, March 22 – Friday, March 25).  Finalists will be asked to show their entire collections (original 8 plus additional 4 looks) on Saturday, March 26, 2011.

This juried fine-art exhibition will focus on artwork utilizing paper and organic fiber media as the primary construction means. Submissions may be 2D or 3D but should display innovative and inventive uses of paper and associated fibers.

Selected works will be on display from January 7th until February 18th 2010. All participants are eligible to win up to $1000 in cash and prizes. Winners will be announced by a group of jurors during the First Friday opening exhibition, January 7th at 7pm.

Gallery5 is now accepting proposals and visual submissions for “Momento Mori,” an exhibition that considers death and ephemerality in the modern era. The work assembled in this all-media show will look at how artists are confronting these issues today and consider impermanence in cotemporary culture.

Both 2-dimensional and 3-demensional works are welcome and there is no entry fee.  All digital images should be a maximum of 10”x10” at 72 dpi. Local artists around Virginia are invited to participate in a poster design contest for LCD Soundsystem and Sleigh Bells coming to the Charlottesville Pavilion on Saturday, October 2nd.

Information

The artist with the winning poster will receive a pair of tickets to the show, free production of a limited run of posters (for commemorative use only, not for resale via the venue or artists), a print of their poster signed by LCD Soundsystem, and both bands will take home prints of the poster as a commemorative.
