The Junior Woman’s Club of Williamsburg is hosting the 48th Annual Art on the Square in Williamsburg, VA on Sunday, May 1, 2011.

Information

ART ON THE SQUARE is dedicated to providing an art show that offers original, high quality, handcrafted, and diverse mediums of art.  The proceeds go towards Fine Arts Scholarships awarded to qualified students pursuing an education or career in the visual and/or performing arts.  Proceeds are also donated to visual and performing arts organizations within our community.

This is a juried show.  175 spaces are available. 
Awards will be presented in Fine Art and Fine Craft categories.  The 1st Place winner in each category will receive $200, 2nd Place $100, and 3rd Place $75.  

Requirements

To apply, please send a completed application form, three (3) slides or photographs representative of your current work and a $25 application fee no later than Friday, November 19th, 2010.

Central Virginia Waste Management Authority is calling all entries for a fashion show featuring recycled items by VCUarts students. The top 25 pieces submitted will be featured in the fashion show on December 2nd at the Aurora Restaurant, 401 E. Grace Street.

Requirements

You are eligible to apply if you are an undergraduate or graduate student or a professional artist (not seeking a degree at the time of the application deadline or during the grant period, August 2011 – May 2012, who agrees to reside in the state during the grant period.) Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States, as well as current legal residents of Virginia or registered in-state students. Professionals must have been residents for at least 24 consecutive months and students for at least 12 consecutive months immediately prior to this application. Applicants must be able to provide verification of residency upon request. Students must be enrolled, or planning to be enrolled, full time for the entire academic year at an accredited college, university, or school of the arts. Partial fellowship awards may be considered on a case-by-case basis for full-time students in the last semester of a degree program.

There are four large, beautiful, brick walls that hold 2-3 large pieces and as many as 7-10 small pieces.

There is no charge to have the pieces shown in the studio, and no charge commission on selling the work either. The only requirement is that the artist sign a waiver and keep their pieces up for the whole month.

New Waves 2011is CAC’s annual, multi-media, juried exhibition. Work in all artistic mediums and made between the years of 2008-2010 that have not been
exhibited in previous New Waves exhibitions are eligible for review. Two-dimensional work must be suitable and prepared for installation and may not exceed 84 inches in any dimension, including frame. Sculpture may not exceed 84 inches including base and must not exceed 200 lbs.

Opportunity

This juried fine-art exhibition will focus on artwork utilizing paper and organic fiber media as the primary construction means. Submissions may be 2D or 3D but should display innovative and inventive uses of paper and associated fibers.

Selected works will be on display from January 7th until February 18th 2010. All participants are eligible to win up to $1000 in cash and prizes. Winners will be announced by a group of jurors during the First Friday opening exhibition, January 7th at 7pm.

“Memento Mori” will be shown from October 29th until Dec 17th 2010 and will coincide with an observance of Dia de Muertos throughout the month of November.

Gallery5 is now accepting proposals and visual submissions for “Momento Mori,” an exhibition that considers death and ephemerality in the modern era. The work assembled in this all-media show will look at how artists are confronting these issues today and consider impermanence in cotemporary culture.

Both 2-dimensional and 3-demensional works are welcome and there is no entry fee.  All digital images should be a maximum of 10”x10” at 72 dpi. Please attach a numbered index of your work that includes title, dimensions, and medium. Bio, statement, resume, and relevant links may also be included in your submission.

BECA: Bridge for Emerging Contemporary Art, the global artist and designer run non-profit project founded in January 2008, presents ‘ARTICLE 19′.  Drawing inspiration from both the preamble and Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, artists, architects + designers from around the world are challenged to Explore, Discover and Act through Art + Design. The result will be an international group exhibition which embodies not only the spirit of Article 19 of the UDHR but also explores today’s ever-growing challenges faced by contemporary society from all corners of the globe when attempts are made to realize our human right to freedom of expression.

The BECA Foundation will host the exhibition at New Studio A.D., a new multi-functional studio, exhibition and event space located in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico.

This is a multimedia and multidisciplinary exhibition without limitation therefore all works will be considered.
