The mission of the Charleston Fashion Week’s® Emerging Designer Competition: East (EDCE) is to offer a platform for aspiring designers living in the Eastern United States to showcase their talent on the runway at Charleston Fashion Week® and gain the attention of national press and buyers.

Information

Sixteen designers will be chosen by the Fashion Panel as semifinalists and will show their collections on the nights of Tuesday, March 22 through Friday, March 25, 2011.  Four semifinalists will show each night, final schedule to be announced by Charleston Fashion Week® at a later date.  One (1) designer from each night will then be selected by the panel of judges as a finalist to advance to Saturday evening and the chance to be named the Grand Prize Winner.

Collections must focus on Fall 2011 or Swimwear and include 12 looks.  Semifinalists will be asked to show eight (8) looks the night of your runway presentations (nights of Tuesday, March 22 – Friday, March 25).  Finalists will be asked to show their entire collections (original 8 plus additional 4 looks) on Saturday, March 26, 2011.

The Fetch a Cure is seeking submissions from local and regional deisgners who would like to have their work showcased in our couture fund raiser, the FauxPaw Fashion Show.  We are seeking either complimentary or coordinated outfits for humans and their canine companions; 1 human and 1 canine design will need to be submitted by each entrant to be accepted.  All fashions accepted for runway submission will be auctioned off the evening of the show, with proceeds to benefit Fetch a Cure’s “Companions in Crisis” fund. The No Dead Artists exhibition was founded in 1995 to give a voice to emerging artists. The exhibition’s name is derived from the old adage that artists never achieve any success until they die. No Dead Artists turns that on its head and gives emerging artists their first break into the art world. In the 90’s, the exhibition was open only to New Orleans artists and then it grew to include artists of Louisiana.
The exhibition has been a springboard for many artists, leading to press coverage, national recognition, gallery representation and acquisitions by museums and other prominent collections. Each year gallery owner, Jonathan Ferrara, invites a panel of renowned arts professional and collectors to select the newest creative talents. Past jurors have included Prospect.1 Founder and Curator Dan Cameron, Museum Director Billie Milam Weisman, Artist Tony Fitzpatrick, MacArthur Fellow John Scott and Ogden Museum Director David Houston.

Hampton Arts hosts the VIRGINIA ARTISTS 2010 Juried Exhibition at The Charles H. Taylor Arts Center (CHTAC) from July 17-August 29, 2010.

Applications must be received at The Charles H. Taylor Arts Center by Friday, May 14, 6:00 pm.

Eligibility:
Artists age 18 and up living in Virginia may submit up to three original works completed within the last two years and not previously shown at CHTAC. All media, styles, techniques and subject matter are eligible.

Entry Requirements:
Two dimensional entries must be framed and ready for hanging with hook eyes and wire. Frames, mats, and glass or plexiglass should be clean and presented in a professional manner. White or off white mats are suggested. Neither saw tooth hangers nor wet paint shall be accepted. Works should not exceed 60″ in any direction including frame and 150 lbs maximum weight. Accepted works must remain for the duration of the show. CHTAC reserves the right to refuse entry to works with unusual installation requirements or otherwise judged unsuitable. No substitutions or extractions will be allowed once work is selected.

Submission:
Artists may submit 1 digital image each for up to three individual works on 1 CD.

Digital Images:
1 CD per entry should all be submitted with 1 digital image for up to 3 art pieces. All 3 digital images go on one CD. Each image should be approximately 4″x 6″ at 300 dpi jpg files (at least 300 kb but no more than 3 MB). Files should be labeled as: Last name, First name Title of work year completed.JPG . Label the CD with your name.

Application and Fees:
Each application must be accompanied by the entry fee and 1 CD with 1 digital image of each submitted artwork. The non-refundable fee of $35 ($30 for Hampton Arts League members) covers application and exhibition expenses. Make checks payable to Hampton Arts.
