The VCU Intercultural Festival is looking for student artists and photographers to submit work for the 2011 VCU Intercultural Festival Art Exhibition! The Art Exhibition will take place on Saturday April 9th, 2011. Artists are encouraged to submit work based on themes that express aspects of any specific culture
Friday April 1st, 2011 – Artwork due in the University Student Commons Office of Multicultural Student Affairs at 5:00pm.
You may submit up to 5 pieces total using a cultural theme.
Only 2-D work will be accepted; all art must be able to be hung.
An Art Exhibition Submission Form must be attached to each piece of work.
An Art Reception will take place on Friday April 8th, 2011 in the University Student Commons, Richmond Salons III – IV, from 3pm to 5pm. All artists are encouraged to attend. Artwork will be displayed. Light refreshments will be provided.
Artist needed to draw three comic-style character sketches in color. The sketches are going to be use for the back of trading cards for a conference.
Pay: $20-25 per sketch
Two of the characters are winged warriors and will be similar in content but different in coloration.
The third character is a futuristic humanoid with hentai influence. Details would be forthcoming to the chosen artist.
Sample of comic-style art, preferably color sketches, needs to be sent to employer ASAP.

WRIR 97.3 LP FM announces its Spring 2011 T-shirt design contest to complement the independent radio station’s Spring Fund Drive. From February 1st – March 6th, 2011, WRIR will solicit designs from local as well as national artists. If chosen, the winner’s artwork will appear on the hundreds of T-shirts worn by WRIR supporters each year.
The winning design will be printed on the spring fundraiser t-shirt. The winner will receive WRIR’s top fundraiser pledge package, PLUS an extra t-shirt. You will also be mentioned on air during the fundraiser.

VCU Dining Services is now accepting design submissions for the 2011 Official VCU Coffee Mug.
Creators of the chosen designs will receive a $250 gift certificate to Barnes & Noble @ VCU and 50 free coffee refills. Entry forms and contest guidelines are available on the VCU Dining Services website at www.bsv.vcu.edu/vcufood/

Curated Culture’s First Fridays is held on the first Friday of each month, rain or shine, generally between 6 and 10 p.m. This unique cultural event showcases Richmond’s thriving arts community, focusing on the diverse arts and cultural venues located along the historic Broad Street corridor.
This exhibit will present works from the 60’s and 70’s era’s art movement of “psychedelic” works and works inspired by that of “Warhol”Basquiat”Max” etc…also inspired by the great album covers of that era. In conjuntion to the exhibit on March 19th 2011, 1 week before the show comes down, we will hold a 60’s 70’s style dance (dress in your fav 60’s, 70’s outfits!) with a Dj spinning all the hits from that era,as a fundraiser for art6 Gallery. art6 Gallery is a conduit for art exeriences, expression and education and serves as a venue and platform for the community to present their creativity via the visual arts,music, writing and performance.

Display your artwork at an Orchid Show held by Strange’s Florist and Garden Center.
For the past 5 years, Strange’s Florist and Garden Center has held an Orchid Show at their Broad Street location for the VA Orchid Society. They are currently looking to have work displayed during the show which will be judged and voted on by the general public. Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens has agreed to display the top three pieces for the month of March and possibly April. In addition, a gift card would be awarded to the winner. The show will take place February 25th-27th.
The artwork can be anything dealing with gardening or ideally orchids.

9WG Studios, a new production studio, on West Grace Street is looking for artists to exhibit their work in the their studios for First Friday.
There is no commission fee charged to show the work, and artwork stays up for two months. Students are welcome to show their artwork and bring people by the studio at anytime.
