ArtPrize 2010

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

Opportunity

Submit a proposal for the ArtPrize 2010 competition.

Information

ArtPrize is a platform for creation, an event that you can take into your own hands, located in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

We can all agree that art is important. It’s only with questions about “which art?” or “why?” that we start to disagree. ArtPrize is an event where, for two weeks, everyone can find a way to put the fundamental belief that art is important into action.

The vote is not a way to discover the “best” art. It is the action to get everyone talking about art.

The prize is not a reward for the most important achievement. It is the world’s largest excuse to get creative and try something new.

For two weeks, a giant community forms around a grand and common project based on the belief that art is important. We believe that is worth far more than the prize money.

Real Art D.C.

Tuesday, April 13th, 2010

Opportunity

Submit work for Real Art D.C., the Washington Post’s new platform for contemporary art in the Washington region.

Information

Real Art D.C. is an online virtual gallery of works by local artists that will allow Post readers to discover and connect with Washington’s newest talents. Artists themselves will post their own work- along with dealers and teachers on their behalf- and anyone can click through and see the spectrum of local creativity.

Next month the Galleries columnist will begin sifting through the uploads to Real Art D.C. and picking 10 artists from the virtual gallery to spotlight in a new online feature.

Throughout the spring and summer, she will choose a new artist-finalist every few weeks and visit the artist’s studio, reporting about what she finds on the Real Art D.C. site. The 10th finalist will be selected sometime after Sept. 30, the last day of submissions to Real Art D.C.

Once the top 10 are chosen, voting will open so that washingtonpost.com users can choose the finalist they like best. The winning artist will be profiled in The Washington Post (and, of course, online).

Art|Everywhere Call to Artists

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Opportunity

Submit work for the Art|Everywhere Storefront Art Initiative in Downtown Norfolk.

Information

Art|Everywhere is a celebration of Downtown Norfolk and all that it could be. It is an opportunity for you to show your work in a venue that is a half-mile long and sees thousands of pedestrians each week.
For eight remarkable weeks this spring, empty storefront windows along Granby Street in Downtown Norfolk will be
transformed by art. The corridor will be one monumental gallery. The windows and facades of vacant properties will be the walls. And it will all commence with an opening night celebration where we’ll fill the streets with art lovers.
For viewers, Art|Everywhere represents a new and inspiring way of looking at Norfolk. For artists, it is an opportunity to portray your creative vision on a largerscale canvas than perhaps ever before or again, and for it to be seen by the masses.

installation if chosen.

Submit your completed entry form, proposal, and any additional images as attachments via email to:

If chosen you will be notified within the week following the submission deadline. Your art must then be installed between April 14 and May 1. Opportunity

Apply for the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts (DCCA) Residency Program.

Information

*Great opportunity for students who have graduated or will be graduating in May.

The goals of this residency program are to encourage the work of innovative artists, to infuse challenging ideas and issues into the community, and to forge relationships between artists and the community.

Artists work with the community group approximately 6 - 10 hours per week in addition to several hours of additional preparation time necessary for fulfilling the goals of the residency. Residencies typically culminate in an exhibition, performance, or installation at the community site or at the DCCA. The DCCA may also schedule an exhibition of the artist’s own work. The DCCA oversees the details of the residency, arranges for the community partnership in cooperation with the artist, seeks funding, and supports the planning and documentation processes.
