Call for Entries ~ Accolade Named Among Top 25 Festivals

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

  • Now in its sixth year, top-tier, international awards competition, The Accolade, announces its Call for Entries for filmmakers, television producers and videographers.
  • The Accolade is a non-traditional, virtual venue. Awards go to those filmmakers, television producers and videographers who produce fresh, standout entertainment, animation and compelling documentaries. It is a showcase for cinematic gems and unique voices. Most importantly, The Accolade team works passionately to help worthy productions gain the publicity and distribution they deserve. That is what The Accolade is all about: helping winners of this coveted award achieve recognition and distribution opportunities. Every filmmaker, television producer and videographer wants credibility associated with their work and buzz about their productions. In addition to target press releases, clips of the Best of Show productions are streamed on The Accolade Web site, reaching thousands of industry professionals. The Accolade is an award recognized for its rigorous evaluation process by buyers and distributors, inspiring confidence that winning productions are of high quality. Quality and creativity are celebrated in three levels of awards: Best of Show, Award of Excellence and Honorable Mention. Best of Show honors are granted only if worthy productions are discovered. Likewise, no more than 15% of entries are granted Awards of Excellence. Notable artistic and technical productions are recognized at the Honorable Mention award level. Annually, a special award is given to a production that makes a significant contribution to social change or a humanitarian effort. The Accolade receives entries from all over the world: Australia, Brazil, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Columbia, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Hong Kong, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Puerto Rico, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Turkey, United Kingdom and the United States. Call for Artwork - Paperwork

Thursday, July 24th, 2008

  • Walsh Gallery - Seton Hall University
  • PAPERWORK, to be shown 11/10 - 12/12/08,open to all artists who use paper in their work; preference will be given to those artists who experiment with the medium, so as to introduce visitors to fresh adaptations of a traditional material. By focusing on works of artists that use a traditional artistic medium non-traditionally, the curators seek to create an environment where visitors can debate the connotations of a work on paper. By utilizing the familiarity of paper as a resource, the curators hope to engage visitors in a dialogic experience that will encourage visitors to use a wider spectrum of descriptive terms to discuss the art on display as well as challenge the limited perception of works on paper. The curators are especially interested in artbooks, photography, mail art, stamp art, design, fashion, origami, sculpture, installation, collage and cut-outs. $15/5 entries.

Doc Martens The Brief: Design Our Next Boot!

Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008

  • This is your chance to show the world your talent. Choose your canvas: the 8-hole or the 14-hole boot. Use pens, use paint, use whatever. Use your imagination. We’ve provided some tools here. Or if you want, you can use your own. This time we’ll have two winners. One voted for by the people. The other chosen by a panel of industry insiders. You enter it. We’ll make them. You’ll see them in shops. Worldwide.
  • So here's the legal bit - which can be summed up like this: 1. Only submit material/designs that you have the copyright for or the copyright holder's permission. This is important. You own the rights to all your content, we don't. 2. If your design gets chosen we’ll pay you £1,000 to use it for a year. If you would like to get in contact, just drop us an email to questions@airwair.co.uk 3. There will be two winners. One selected based on public votes and the other selected by a panel of judges. 4. Only one vote will be acepted per person, per design. Where multiple votes from a single IP address are detected we reserve the right to remove the design and/or votes. This is not an accusation of vote rigging, but a safety barrier against foul play. Your Acceptance BY USING AND/OR VISITING THIS WEBSITE (collectively, including all Content available through the drmartens.com/bootdesign or dmbootdesign.com domain name, the "drmartens.com/bootdesign Website", “dmbootdesign.com Website”, or "Website"), YOU SIGNIFY YOUR ASSENT TO THE TERMS SERVICE, INCLUDING THE TERMS AND CONDITIONS THE WEBSITE’S PRIVACY NOTICE, WHICH ARE PUBLISHED HERE, AND THE SPECIFIC TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF THE BOOT DESIGN COMMISSION AVAILABLE THROUGH THE WEBSITE. If you do not agree to any of these terms, then please do not use the Drmartens.com/boot / dmbootdeign.com design Website. Boot Design opportunity Terms and Conditions Upon submitting a design, providing it complies with the Terms of Service, it will be displayed on the Website where users, including the person who submitted the design, can forward the design to a 3rd party(s) of their choice, download the design, receive the design in an HTML format or rate the design based on their personal preference. Furthermore, the Designer hereby grants Airwair International the right to use the design in marketing material relating to the promotion of the campaign or related Products in all media globally. The Promoter has the right to use and publish, in whole or in part or distorted in character or form, the design, for any lawful purpose and in any media now known or hereafter developed, provided that the design is not to be used in any way that is likely to harm the Designers reputation. The Promoter reserves the right to remove a design from the site or votes for a specific design at any stage and without prior notice. Last designs accepted 28.07.08. Last votes accepted 31.07.08. The author of the design with the highest vote rating (only one rating will be accepted per person per design), or where there is more than one design with the highest rating the entry with the greatest number of ratings will be offered the opportunity to have the design produced. The second winner will be selected through a panel of judges selected by Dr. Martens. The panel will select a single design which they feel merits the opportunity of being put into production. Their decision is final and no correspondance will be entered into on this point. Both the winner selected through the voting mechanic and the winner seletced by the panel will be offered the opportunity to have their designs put into prodcution based on the following criteria: 1. Grant of Rights In consideration of the total sum of £1000, the Designer irrevocably grant to the AirWair International Limited (“Promoter”) and its successors, the exclusive worldwide right to use their submitted design on selected footwear ("Products"). Manufacture of the Products shall commence on 11.08.07 and shall continue for one calendar year from this date ("Term"). Elsewhere Artist Collaborative call for residents

Monday, June 30th, 2008

  • 2008 residencies for artists, writers, documentarians, and cultural producers Elsewhere, an arts production site and experimental museum in downtown Greensboro, NC, is seeking artists, writers, documentarians, and cultural producers for residencies during its Summer 2008 seasons. Set within a former thrift store housing a 58-year collection of American surplus, thrift, and antiques, Elsewhere invites experimental creators to utilize the immense collection of objects to pursue site-specific material, conceptual, and/or technologically-based projects. Elsewhere's building—two storefronts on the ground floor, a 14-room boarding house on the second, and warehouse on the third—provides dynamic architectures for the creation and installation of works.
  • Artists live and work within transforming installations; these interactive environments become platforms for re-conceptualizing the theory and practice of art-making as an ongoing process of exchange in community. Experimenting with museum-as-medium within a store where nothing is for sale, Elsewhere offers an unparalleled framework for art practices, processes, and productions outside the traditional gallery, museum, and residency systems.
  • DEADLINES Summer: June 1st to August 31st (final deadline March 7th 5pm) Fall: September 1st to October 31st (final deadline May 23rd 5pm)
