VSA arts and Volkswagen of America, Inc., announce “Green Light” call for entries

VSA arts , under generous sponsorship from Volkswagen of American, Inc., launched the seventh call for entries to identify emerging artists with disabilities, ages 16-25, who demonstrate promise in the visual arts. The call, entitled “Green Light”, encourages artists to consider the motivations behind their work and the infinite possibilities that creativity provides. Art must be an original work that has been completed in the last three (3) years. Eligible media include: paintings and drawings (oil, watercolor, acrylic, pencil or charcoal), fine art prints (lithographs, etching, intaglio, or woodcuts), photography, computer generated prints and two-dimensional mixed media. Virtually any media that may be represented in two-dimensions. Artwork should not exceed 60 inches in either direction. NEW THIS YEAR: Sculpture and time-based media (video, film etc.) will also be considered. Sculpture should not exceed 24 inches in any direction.

Fifteen (15) finalists will be awarded a total of $60,000 in awards during an awards ceremony on Capitol Hill during the Fall 2008, and artwork will be displayed in a nation-wide touring exhibition that debuts at the Smithsonian.

  • Wolf Trap's Internship Program provides project-based training and experience to approximately 40 interns annually. Interns become integral members of the staff working side-by-side with professionals producing, promoting, and administering all aspects of the performing arts. Fall internships are part time (maximum of 24 hours per week) and 12 weeks in duration. Housing is the responsibility of the student, although guidance in this matter is available. Wolf Trap Interns are required to have a reliable mode of transportation as the Wolf Trap Foundation is not accessible by public transit. Fall Internships are offered in the following departments: Education: Interns in the Education Department assist with planning, coordinating, and implementing education programs including teaching artists' classroom residencies, the Internship Program, Scholarship Program, classes at the Center for Education, and more. More Information Multimedia: The Multimedia intern will assist the Marketing Department in utilizing the latest multimedia technology—including podcasts, Intern at Stage Door Internet radio, video, RSS feeds, distance-learning opportunities, interactive Web features, and more—to help promote Wolf Trap's arts and education programs. More Information Web Communications: The Web Communications intern will assist in strategy, design, development, and maintenence of www.wolftrap.org and Wolf Trap's email marketing campaigns. More Information Development and Special Events: As a nonprofit organization, Wolf Trap relies on private philanthropy for support. The Development intern will assist with donor communications and database management, donor recognition, grant proposals, financial analyses, and more. The Special Events intern will assist in the daily planning and logistics of Wolf Trap's events (including the annual Ball and Golf Tournament), assist members with concerns or requests, write articles for the Associates newsletters, and more. Fred Rogers Memorial Scholarship

  • The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Foundation is accepting applications for the Fred Rogers Memorial Scholarship, which will provide three $10,000 scholarships to undergraduate and graduate students studying children’s media and education. The scholarships will be awarded for research or content development, and candidates must be studying early childhood education, child development and psychology, film and television production, music or animation. In addition to the scholarship, recipients also will receive mentoring support from the academy’s Children’s Programming Peer Group.

  • The NSAL is offering two scholarship opportunities. 1. National Career Award Competition for Vocal Performance. Recipient must be between the ages of 20-32 Top award is $10,000 2. Naomi Winston Scholarship for both Vocal performance and visual art. Recipient must be between the ages of 16-22 Awards vary from $1000-5,000. There are images of previous winners work on the site, which may be helpful to you and your students. Up to $20,000 will be awarded 10,000 in vocal performance and 10,000 in visual art.   • The Juilliard School sponsors a Professional Intern Program in both Technical Theater and Arts Administration. The internships are designed to provide hands-on experience working with theater professionals and school administrators in their respective fields. Internships are offered in: Costume Shop, Wigs & Makeup, Electrics, Props, Scene Painting, Stage Management, Production Assistant, Dance Division, Drama Division and Concert Office. All internships are full time and usually begin in September and run through May. Expect to work 40 hours per week. Although reasonable working hours are generally maintained, the interns' weekly schedules will vary with their duties and the requirements of the overall production schedules. Prospective Interns should carefully evaluate their individual financial situations when applying to the program. Although the program offers each intern a stipend of $283 per week, this is not sufficient to cover an individual's living expenses in New York. Academic credit can be arranged.

Savannah Music Festival

  • Calling all aspiring artists from around the world to compete in the 15th annual American Traditions Vocal Competition, which celebrates music by American composers from the last two centuries. Savannah-area voice experts will select quarterfinalists from the initial pool of applicants to perform in the competition during SMF. Acceptable program selections include art songs, operatic excerpts, blues, jazz, cabaret songs, hymns, spirituals, musical theater, songs from film and television, and popular songs by American composers. The top prize is $10,000, with the first runner-up taking home $5,000 and the third place contestant winning $2,500. Other finalists receive $1,000. All quarterfinalists receive a travel stipent and host family housing opportunities in Savannah. Competition dates are March 25-29, 2008.
  • Submissions due by December 1, 2007. Contestants should submit applications and a 15-minute program representing various entrance categories for consideration in the preliminary rounds. The application form lists additional requirements.
