Opportunity

In conjunction with National Geographic Channel, WorldNomads.com is offering the opportunity for one talented student to go on a 7 day assignment with  National Geographic photographer Jason Edwards,  to the Kingdom of Bhutan. Working alongside Jason they will photograph rare and endangered wildlife, historical architecture and colourful cultural life. Gaining invaluable mentoring and hands on experience in everything from shot set up, technique and composition through to insights into Jason’s many years of diverse experience, they will learn what it is like to be a National Geographic Photographer on assignment.

Information

The scholarship winner will receive (AUD)$2000 worth of Pentax photographic equipment plus have their best photographs published on National Geographic Channel. (see last year’s winner’s photos from Antarctica). They will be flown to Paro from their country of residence to join their mentor and guide from Jo Jo’s Adventures to explore the deeply spiritual Bhutan as it opens up the modern world, in careful balance with its ancient traditions. 

Requirements

Applicants for the scholarship must submit no more than 5 photos that tell a story about a place they have visited.  The deadline for entries is October 17, 2010.

Opportunity

The Silver Eye Center for Photography is pleased to announce Fellowship 2010, our international photography competition.Our distinguished juror is Deborah Klochko, Executive Director of the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego, California.As we enter our 11th Fellowship year, we have expanded our eligibility requirements and the number of major awards.The competition is now open to all international photographers, not just Silver Eye members. Secondly, we are now awarding two Fellowships. The first carries a $3,500 award and is open
to all eligible photographers. The second award, new in 2010, is open only to Pennsylvania residents and carries a $1,500award. Both winning artists’ work will be exhibited at Silver Eye in shows opening in late November 2010.

Requirements

Submissions are limited to ten images from a cohesive, exhibition- ready body of work and must have been completed within the last three years.The submitted images can not have been previously exhibited at the Silver Eye Center for Photography.  The submission deadline is Friday, August 27, 2010 an recipients will be notified by phone after a decision is made. Opportunity

Twice a year the Arlington Arts Center offers a group of 7 artists an opportunity to exhibit work in a SOLOS show.

Information

Each year 10 to 14 artists from across the Mid-Atlantic region are selected for solo exhibitions to take place in one of AAC’s seven seperate gallery spaces, or outside on the grounds. Proposals that specifically take into account AAC’s space, layout, and surrounding environs are encouraged.

Submissions will be reviewed by a panel of experts lead by curators Michael Pollack and Melissa Keys.

Exhibitions typically run for seven to eight weeks. AAC shows are often reviewed in The Washington Post, Art Papers, Sculpture Magazine, Art in America, and other publications, both in print and online.

Artists may submit up to 10 images along with an artist’s statement, resume, written exhibition proposal and  list of work samples submitted.

There is a $35 exhibition fee.

Powered by Matador, and supported in part by the National Geographic Society, the Glimpse Correspondents Program provides talented writers and photographers between the ages of 18-36 with a $600 stipend as well as one on one editorial training and support to complete an independent journalistic work based on their experience abroad. The program is open to anyone between the ages of 18 and 36 who will be working, volunteering, or studying outside of their home country for at least 10 weeks.
