1708 Gallery is inviting artists to submit work for the second Feed Biennial.

This national juried exhibition is open to ant professional or graduate student artist working in any medium. 1708 Gallery is a non-profit contemporary art space in Richmond, Va  whose mission is to expand the understanding, development, and appreciation of contemporary art by giving exposure to both emerging and established artists.

Submission Deadline: March 31st

Entry Fee: $30 for 5 images

The jurors will select work to be exhibited from the work submitted. All work submitted must be available for exhibition from the last week in August 2011to the last week in October 2011. All work must be received ready for installation with proper hanging devices attached and instructions where necessary. 1708 Gallery reserves the right to refuse any work that is improperly presented or unsafe to hang. Any special installation requirements must be discussed with gallery staff in advance.

All work submitted must fit through a 4ft x 7ft opening.

1708 Gallery will provide insurance for work within the gallery for 65% of stated retail value work covering loss, theft, or damage due to malicious intent.

Artists are responsible for the cost and arrangement of shipping artwork (delivery and pick-up) to and from 1708 Gallery.

Eligibility: All undergraduate students who are taking fine art studio courses in the School of the Arts. Eligible students may submit up to 3 works for consideration

All works must be ready to install, including works on paper. Paint must be dry.

Video work should be submitted on a disc as a low-res QuickTime (MPEG) file.

Artists are asked to create and share work that challenges historical, societal, and cultural norms that dictate expectations of who we are supposed to be. The selected work does not have to be “funny” as much as insightful.

BITE will be presented at Greater Reston Arts Center located in Reston Town Center, a busy commercial and residential district in Northern Virginia

The Art Exhibition will take place on Saturday April 9th, 2011. Artists are encouraged to submit work based on themes that express aspects of any specific culture

Friday April 1st, 2011 – Artwork due in the University Student Commons Office of Multicultural Student Affairs at 5:00pm.

You may submit up to 5 pieces total using a cultural theme.

Only 2-D work will be accepted; all art must be able to be hung.

An Art Exhibition Submission Form must be attached to each piece of work.

An Art Reception will take place on Friday April 8th, 2011 in the University Student Commons, Richmond Salons III – IV, from 3pm to 5pm. All artists are encouraged to attend. Artwork will be displayed. Light refreshments will be provided.

Gallery5 is accepting proposals for their upcoming exhibition “Disrobed III.” Disrobed is an assembly of projects that utilize the human body as a primary material, bringing together artists and groups of live models who will compose a series of temporary installations and performances within our space. “Disrobed III” will be a one-night event opening on Friday, May 6th 2011 6pm-10pm.

Disrobed3 highlights the living figure both as a primary material and as a viable means of communication within art. Clothed, naked, scarred, or freckled, the human body has provided a critical terrain within all media. Cultures continue frequent debates over how anatomies should or should not be expressed with an unending fervor. It is paradoxical that this universal physique, quoted for its canonical beauty by the Greeks and Romans, quickly become a hotbed of controversy. Gawky and goose-pimpled at times, the baring of skin elicits a rash of responses, especially where sexuality, gender, and nakedness commingle. To strip these realities from the body is a tragic denial of our shared humanity. It is the purpose of Disrobed3 to challenge these limitations and to encourage a vital discourse about the exposed human form.

Curated Culture’s First Fridays is held on the first Friday of each month, rain or shine, generally between 6 and 10 p.m. This unique cultural event showcases Richmond’s thriving arts community, focusing on the diverse arts and cultural venues located along the historic Broad Street corridor.

This exhibit will present works from the 60’s and 70’s era’s art movement of “psychedelic” works and works inspired by that of “Warhol”Basquiat”Max” etc…also inspired by the great album covers of that era. In conjuntion to the exhibit on March 19th 2011, 1 week before the show comes down, we will hold a 60’s 70’s style dance (dress in your fav 60’s, 70’s outfits!) with a Dj spinning all the hits from that era,as a fundraiser for art6 Gallery. art6 Gallery is a conduit for art exeriences, expression and education and serves as a venue and platform for the community to present their creativity via the visual arts,music, writing and performance.

For the past 5 years, Strange’s Florist and Garden Center has held an Orchid Show at their Broad Street location for the VA Orchid Society. They are currently looking to have work displayed during the show which will be judged and voted on by the general public. Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens has agreed to display the top three pieces for the month of March and possibly April. In addition, a gift card would be awarded to the winner. The show will take place February 25th-27th.

The Royal Academy of Arts is now open for submission to the annual Summer Exhibition, a unique celebratory showcase for art of all styles and media.

Any artist can submit paintings, sculpture, photography, prints, architectural models, film or artist’s books by completing a form before 15 March 2011.

Over 12,000 works are submitted for consideration every year and around 1200 are exhibited.

The Academy seeks to encourage a diverse range of artists to enter and, as a result, well over 100 artists are included every year who have not previously exhibited in the Summer Exhibition. The show provides an unrivaled opportunity for exhibitors to sell their work and have it seen by over 200,000 visitors during its three-month run; all artists are strongly encouraged to enter work that is available for sale.
