VMFA Visual Arts Fellowships 2011-2012

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Fellowship Program is a vital source of funding for the visual arts in Virginia. VMFA is committed to supporting professional artists as well as art students who demonstrate exceptional creative ability in their chosen discipline and has awarded more than $4 million in fellowships to Virginians.Undergraduate students have the opportunity to gain a $4000 Fellowship, graduate students can receive a $6000 Fellowship and professional artists can receive an $8000 Fellowship. Information
Mailed applications must be postmarked by Friday, November 12, 2010. Hand-delivered applications must be brought to the main entrance of the Pauley Center on the west side of the museum campus by 4:30 pm, Friday, November 12, 2010. The museum does not accept application materials via fax or other electronic means. Late applications will not be considered.
Applicants will be notified of awards by letter during the first week of February 2011. VMFA does not provide written or verbal explanations regarding the awards. CDs and DVDs of fellowship award recipients will be retained as a permanent record.
Requirements
Undergraduate, graduate students are eligible, as well as, professional artists who are not seeking a degree at the time of the application deadline or during the grant period, August 2011 – May 2012. Also participants must agree to reside in the state of Virginia during the grant period. Applicants must be citizens or permanent residents of the United States, as well as current legal residents of Virginia or registered in-state students. Professionals must have been residents for at least 24 consecutive months and students for at least 12 consecutive months immediately prior to this application. Applicants must be able to provide verification of residency upon request. Students must be enrolled, or planning to be enrolled, full time for the entire academic year at an accredited college, university, or school of the arts. Partial fellowship awards may be considered on a case-by-case basis for full-time students in the last semester of a degree program.
