Curator Stuart Keeler will present an opportunity for discussion on risk-taking in public art and the role of the artist as a cultural producer who re-imagines public space. Acknowledging that there are many reasons why artists and projects are not selected for public art commissions, this presentation of Salon des Refusés seeks to recognize the power of “what could have been.
Information
Digital images of unrealized work are desired for presentation at the upcoming Americans for the Arts Half-Century Summit, held in Baltimore, Maryland, June 23 – 25, 2010.
Artists, Architects, Landscape Architects, Engineers, Designers, Visual Culture Practitioners and Students are all eligible to submit projects which have not been realized.
Works proposed between 1960 and 2010 are encouraged for submission. Images may be of any temporary, non-permissional and/or permanent proposals/projects designed for public spaces.
The Salon des Refusés presentation will take place at “Center Stage” in the Waterfront Marriott Hotel conference location on June 24, 2010 from 8:00pm – 9:30pm.

Deadline: Midnight June 10, 2010 (MDT)
Submission Requirements
5 images with the following details for each:
Name of artist (or collaborative), Year of the proposal , Materials, Dimensions (H x W x D format) , Value (optional, use $0 if necessary) , Description of each image (300 words or less), including the City or agency and commissioning party (if applicable).
