UICA NEW BUILDING - CALL FOR PROPOSALS

June 26th, 2009

Opportunity

Announcing an opportunity for artists and designers to have their work permanently part of the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts’ new facility

Information

In the fall of 2010, UICA will move to its new home, which will be the anchor of a multi-use development on the corner of the most highly visible intersections of Grand Rapids. The larger, LEED certified facility will be five stories and will wrap the front and both corners of the site. The new facility will allow UICA to present an even more dynamic array of contemporary art, new media, and experimental programs including an international artist-in-residency program, a roof-top, outdoor space for sculpture and events, and innovative performances in a fully equipped black-box theatre.

Requirements

In keeping with the environmentally conscious approach to design, UICA is seeking proposals from artists and/or designers to design and create decorative, sculptural elements within the space. Five opportunities exist for works that best fit the organization’s artistic mission, innovatively utilizes recycled or repurposed materials, and creates visual impact and interest. Deadline for proposals is July 17. Installation dates will be spring of 2010.
