The Portland Humanist Film Festival was established in 2010 to be a provocative and enlightening cultural experience for the rapidly growing secular humanist movement in the Pacific Northwest. This year’s festival runs November 11–13, 2011. It celebrates independent film and will be juried.

Categories include documentary, narrative, and animation, each in both short and feature length. Submissions may explore themes such as Cultivating Reason, Compassion & Ethics, Science & the Natural World, and Freedom of Thought, Speech, & Critical Inquiry.

fundraising, PR, and marketing

The exhibition is open to all photographers world wide, both amateur and professional. The Center invites photographers working in all mediums, styles and schools of thought to participate in its exhibitions.

Information

There is no theme for this exhibition. The images will be evaluated as a cohesive body of work, rather than individual images. Fifteen photographers will be chosen to display their twelve-image portfolios in the Center’s Portfolio ShowCase Volume 5 book and online exhibition.

The founder and publisher of Nazraeli Press. Based in Portland, Oregon, Nazraeli Press publishes books specializing in contemporary photography.

Seven x 11: Art for Art
CALL FOR ARTWORK

In celebration of their building opening in July 2011 (7/11), you are invited to participate in Seven x 11: Art for Art.

This salon-style exhibition/fundraiser is open to artists of all skill level and age. Your contribution of one to ten small works will qualify you to be one of the first artists to exhibit at the new UICA. Donated work(s) will be part of a five-week exhibition in the prominent Race Street Gallery. Proceeds from art sales will fund emerging artist honorariums and scholarships for our nationally recognized youth program, ArtWorks.

Information

Each piece will be displayed anonymously and will go on sale to the public in July 2011. All artwork, including sold works, will remain on display through the duration of the exhibition and will remain the property of UICA regardless of sale. The goal is to present 1,000 creative works and to raise $25,000.

Requirements

All artwork needs to be on paper to allow for ease of installation.

Paper has to be good quality paper

Each ARTWORK MUST MEASURE 7 inches x 11 inches and be signed on the back by the artist.

InLight Richmond 2011!

1708 Gallery invites artists working in all media and disciplines, including performance, to submit proposals for InLight Richmond 2011, 1708 Gallery’s fourth annual one-night, public, light-based art exhibition. InLight Richmond 2011 will take place on Friday, October 21 along the James River on a site that features the American Civil War Center at Tredegar Iron Works.

Information

The juror for InLight 2011 is Matthew Lyons, Curator at The Kitchen in New York. Proposals should involve, be inspired by, investigate, or interpret themes of light, from light as medium to light as concept. Existing work, as well as proposals for new projects, will be considered. However, preference will be given to site-specific projects that engage this particular location.

An honorarium will be given to each project. All entries are eligible for the Best in Show award ($1500) and the People’s Choice Award ($500). All green entries are also eligible for a Best in Green award ($1500).
