Chalk Fest ‘08, Celebrate Art, Music, and Creativity
April 25th, 2008- Festival
- Chalk Fest is an annual outdoor street painting festival sponsored by the Cook Foundation and held in Gloucester, Virginia. Inspired by street artists in Europe who create works of art all over the city sidewalks, the event is located at the Main Street Center next to the Main Gloucester Library where artists of all ages paint with street chalk on the pavement. The first Chalk Fest was held in 2007 and was led by street painter/muralist Michael Kirby. Michael's mural "The Life & Legend of Pocahontas" is now on the Gloucester Library wall. The 2008 featured artist is Ann Hefferman from Santa Barbara, California.
This year there will be ACOUSTIC LIVE MUSIC throughout the day - singer/songwriters as well as bluegrass, acoustic blues and great cover tunes! The stellar line-up includes Julie Clark, Susan Greenbaum, Stone's Throw, Shane Cooley, Bill and Macon Gurley and Matt Thomas.
Beginning at 11AM, the musical artists will perform until 5PM while the visual artists create their street paintings. (Can you imagine how incredible it will be for the street painters to create accompanied by amazing live music?) Awards will be presented to the street painters around 5:30 PM and then from 6PM till 9PM there will be a celebration and more great music with the Hot House Band! Beer and wine will be available for purchase.
So, come listen, watch, create and enjoy the day! Bring a lawn chair and be inspired! Artists can register online to create a street painting by visiting:
