ARTIST RESIDENCIES
Emerging and established artists, as well as artist sponsors and organizations, are invited to apply for residency at Creative Boost in Montreal.
Information
THE SETTING
Creative Boost provides a stimulating atmosphere in which individuals can realize their artistic vision. Located in the heart of downtown Montreal, Creative Boost is surrounded by all the cultural activity the city has to offer. Montreal is distinguished by its multiculturalism, and has two official languages (French and English). This global context is the basis of a lively cultural scene that organizes a wide range of events, such as the Montreal Jazz Festival, the Just for Laughs Festival, and the International Film Festival – all at a short walking distance from Creative Boost. Creative Boost is also adjacent to the Musée d’Art Contemporain, Place des Arts, McGill University, Concordia University, and other major museums and institutions. The studio is in close proximity to the many outdoor cafes and art galleries of the Old Port, the recreational activities offered by Mont Royal, and the vibrant nightlife of Boulevard Saint Laurent. In addition, Creative Boost shares a building with diverse artistic organizations, such as a children’s theater company and the headquarters of IMUSICI, a major symphony orchestra.
THE STUDIOS
During their residency at Creative Boost, artists will be immersed in a dynamic environment of cultural exchange. Creative Boost is an international, multilingual setting, where resident artists can take language courses and interact with other artists from all over the world. Throughout the course of their residency, artists will be continuously surrounded by a host of cultural activities presented by the studio. Residents will have access to esteemed teachers and professors in addition to local and international artists who are invited to Creative Boost. This experience will culminate with the chance for artists to exhibit their own work in the studio gallery.
An open, luminous loft space located on the top floor of the building, Creative Boost has concrete flooring and high ceilings. The spacious rooms are illuminated by natural light streaming in from large windows. Creative Boost consists of both private and communal studios, as well as a fully equipped clay and sculpture studio. The private studios will be accessible 24 hours a day during the residency. Creative Boost also has extensive gallery space, giving resident artists the opportunity to exhibit their work.
EXPENSES
All expenses related to the residency are the responsibility of the artist and/or the artist’s sponsoring organization. Creative Boost offers grants of up to $1000 USD per 3-month residency for the purchase of equipment needed by the resident. Creative Boost can also help arrange fully furnished housing for resident artists, situated within 5 minutes walking distance from the Creative Boost studios. LANGUAGE COURSES & CONVERSATION GROUPS
Our comprehensive French and English language programs are designed to help students develop their language skills through a diverse range of activities. Classes are based on a curriculum of integrated skills, with a particular emphasis on speaking and listening. Grammar instruction is presented in such a way that encourages students to actively participate through role playing, discussions, and group projects.
With no more than ten students per group, the language program gives students the personalized attention they require to guide them towards fluency. Instructors use a variety of teaching resources, such as films, magazines, CD’s, and games, which allows pupils to learn in a creative and relaxed environment.
The combination of art and language courses with residency activities provides the opportunity for full immersion in the language of your choice.
