Call for Exhibition Reviews - SECAC Review
June 22nd, 2009Opportunity
The SECAC Review is an annual scholarly journal, the only one of its kind, published in and for the southeastern US. The Review is published and distributed by the Southeastern College Art Conference. The SECAC Review is known for publishing the latest art historical and/or theoretical research of regional scholars as well as reviews of books and exhibitions relevant to the field.
Content: The editors are interested in a wide range of exhibition reviews, from different states, from different types of organizations, and of different art forms, ranging from historical to contemporary works. Neither writers nor organizations have to be members of SECAC to submit a review, although preference will be given to writers and/or exhibitions in the Southeast region served by the Review. Reviewed exhibitions should have been held in the last twelve months.
Information
Objectivity: Writers should maintain critical distance from the exhibitions and artist(s) under review. Reviews cannot be authored by the curator or artists involved in the exhibition. Writers should refrain from reviewing exhibitions to which they have a personal connection.
Style: Exhibition reviews should be written at a level appropriate to the general SECAC membership, i.e., professional colleagues, rather than the general public. This is an opportunity to write at a level of depth and to engage a wider audience for your institution or your research interests.
Requirements
Length: Exhibition reviews can range in length from 1,000 to 2,000 words, that is, from four to eight double-spaced pages.
Images: Authors are responsible for borrowing and submitting images with their essays. Permissions are the responsibility of the author. Please submit at least three images with each exhibition review.
Deadlines:
July 1, 2009 – send brief email pitch of exhibition to be reviewed
July 31, 2009 – completed review and images due
