Opportunity to receive up to a $5000 scholarship.
Information
One of the greatest opportunities the Virginia/ North Carolina Chapter
of the National Society of Arts and Letters has to assist young
artists achieve professional status in Voice and in Art is through our
Winston Scholarship Program now in its fifth year.
The $10,000 Shirley Rabb Winston Scholarship in Voice and the $10,000
Naomi Winston Scholarship in Art have been established to allow young
artists the opportunity to receive advanced training in either voice or
art.
Applicants in NC and VA(south of Fredericksburg) are required to
demonstrate proficiency in their art through submission of the required
materials (DVDs for vocal applicants and CDs or DVDs and prints for art
applicants) to the VA/NC NSAL Chapter.
The scholarship funds are only for private study, for special training or for personal
advancement in the applicant’s art medium. They can be used for workshops, museum programs,
summer programs, etc. The funds are not for college tuition, housing or travel.
The maximum amount awarded to an applicant is $5000.

Requirements
Deadline to apply: February 1, 2009
a) must be a citizen of the United States.
b) must be between 16 and 22 years of age by February 1, 2009. Proof of age must be submitted (a
copy of current driver’s license, birth certificate or passport) with the application.
c) must submit a CD and printout of their works or a vocal performance on DVD to a chapter of the National Society of Arts and
Letters (NSAL) or
d) must demonstrate a serious commitment to their art by stating in writing their career plans for
the future.
e) must specify the mode of further study: private study, special training, or for personal
advancement in their art.
