Call to Artists Sculpture Key West 2009
July 24th, 2008- Artists are invited to create works for Sculpture Key West 2009, an international juried contemporary sculpture exhibition held each winter on the tropical island of Key West, Florida. Shamim M. Momin, co-curator for the Whitney Biennial 2008, is the lead juror. A full-color catalog documenting the exhibition will be published in April, 2009. Site-specific work is encouraged at two historic locations: West Martello Tower and Fort Zachary Taylor State Park.
- Artists may submit proposals for works at either venue. Applications and full details available: www.sculpturekeywest.com/artists-app.htm. Limited artist assistance available. Application fee $25; Postmark deadline for all applications is October 1, 2008. Opening 18 January 2009: West Martello Tower is a Civil War era fort located near the Atlantic Ocean, suitable for outdoor and limited indoor installations including video, electronic or multimedia. Opening 1 March 2009: Fort Zachary Taylor State Park features 54 acres of fields, wooded areas and Gulf of Mexico/Atlantic Ocean beachfront, suitable for outdoor sculptural installations that will withstand exposure to all weather. Both exhibitions close 18 April 2009.
